Subway
& Route Map
Where we are located.
Abate B&B is located in a recently
restored square in the historic center of Rome, a few steps from the Spanish Steps.
Arriving.
If you arrive at the
Leonardo da Vinci - Fuimicino (FCO) Airport you can take the train to the Train Station in
Rome (Roma Termini) then using the Subway "A" line en route to Battistini,
getting off at the Barberini Station (2nd stop). Naturally if you would like taxi service
it can be found just outside the airport terminal or by using our taxi service from
Leonardo da Vinci - Fiumicino Airport in a Mercedes with a driver, at the same price of a
taxi (excluded from B&B price).
If
traveling by train to the Rome Termini Station, by taxi or line "A" on the
Subway as described above, they are the fastest options.
If renting a car, coming from any
highway, once on the Grande Raccordo Anulare (G.R.A) proceed to Via Salaria and exit,
heading toward the center (Centro). Cross Via di Porta Pinciana, continuing along Via
Vittorio Veneto. From there Via dei Cappuccini is a small cross street at the end.
Because the street is in a zone limited
to little traffic, after you dropped your luggage off, it will be necessary to park the
car in a public garage on Via Ludovisi, only three minutes on foot from Via dei
Cappuccini.
Nearby
Monuments.
In the same ancient quarters as the
Spanish Steps and the Trinita' dei Monti Steps is the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, Piazza
Navona, The Barberini Palace that houses the National Gallery of Ancient Art, the
Margherita Palace and the Borghese Gallery Museum.
Still on foot, in a few minutes you will
find the Square and the Quirinale Palace, home to the Head of State and continuing the
Terme di Diocleziano with the National Museum of Rome. Walking just a little more you find
San Pietro in Vincoli Church (that conserves within it's wall the Mose of Michelangelo) to
the Coliseum, the Constantine Arch and the Massenzio Basilica near the Roman Forum.
To see the Vatican, St. Peter's Basilica,
the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel (situated nearby just by the Tevere River) the
best way is to take the Subway, Line "A", to Battistini and get off at
Ottaviano-San Pietro Station (four stops from Barberini).
Shopping.
Around the Spanish Steps,
in an exclusively pedestrian area, there are luxurious boutiques with the latest Italian
and international fashion. While shopping, one can sit and observe the passersby in one of
the many cafes, ice cream shops or taverns in the area.
And one must absolutely
visit the historic Caffe' Greco, where upon their red velvet couches, sat poets such as
Byron and Shelly. Close by, the house museum can be visited where these poets stayed
during their visits to Rome.
