AirEd Help

AirEd will edit every data member of an FS98 AIR file. The AIR file specifies flight dynamics for an aircraft. It has No Effect on the visual model whatsoever.

New to this version:

Files:
Menu choices are for the standard file operations, Open, Save, and Save As. They work as expected. Note that AirEd can be made the editor of choice by selecting "Set AirEd for AIR files". Then AirEd will come up automatically when you click on an AIR file in File Manager or Explorer or whatever it is this week.

The List:
Once a file is open, there will be a list of records presented. This list is similar to the one for directories in File Manager. There will be icons that show kind of data the record contains, and a brief text description. Some records contain only one item of data. If so, the type of data is shown in the icon. You can get a Description Of Data Types.
If the record contains more than one item of data, the icon will be
This means that when you click on it, it will expand to show all of the data items in that record.

NOTE: Single clicks are used in AirEd. Double clicking is not needed!

Editing Items:
To edit an item, simply single click the left mouse button over it.
The way you edit an item depends on what type of data it contains.

Right clicking on an item will bring up a small menu with some advanced functions to choose from.

At the bottom of the window is a bar with text. If you are editing a number, that text will show you the ranges of numbers you can enter.
More advanced users can edit the ini file, which is where just about everything you see is specified. Explanations of the entries are in the file.
NOTE: Don't edit AirEd.ini unless you know what you are doing! The program won't function right if the file gets botched.

I will post the updated AirEd.ini file as it becomes available. If you have found out the function of an entry, please e-mail me with the information, including the steps you took to verify it and I will include it in the next update. All entries MUST be verified in the sim. It isn't enough to just find out what got changed by some other editor!

For ini and program file updates, check in at  MyAirEd page .

Please DON'T e-mail me asking where some thing or another is. If you can't find it in AirEd, it hasn't been found yet.
