HOW I DOUBLED THE FOV OF MY VFX3D

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT AN EASY HACK.THERE IS A HIGH RISK THAT YOU CAN FRY YOUR VFX3D!

IF YOU DECIDE TO GIVE IT A TRY AND THIS BREAKS OFF YOUR VFX3D, KILLS YOUR CAT,BURNS YOUR HOME OR WHATEVER CAN HAPPEN TO YOUR LIFE IT’S NOT MY FAULT!!

Recently I've hacked my VFX3D with new optics Improving the FOV

by almost 100% with very little distortion at the borders and a lot more vivid colors.

For do this I used plastic parts of my old VFX1 for fix the lenses

over the LCDs, but I think it's not so difficult to build something similar

from scratch.

This is the type of lenses I used. I payed around 250 euro for 2.

Maybe you can find better prices if you run a search on the net.

PEAK SCALE LUPE 15x

First of all I detached the  display part from the VFX3D ,unscrewed the screws ,opened the display box,

unscrewed the special screws that fix the LCDs.

I fixed the LCDs with a light glue to the  binocular parts of my old VFX1 being careful to align it perfectly to the little window inside the binocular part. After some adjustment I found a perfect alignment and I fixed it with screws. The new optics have a little bit small diameter compared to the cilynder in the binoculars ,so I had the possibility to do little adjustments after I fixed the LCDs, because if you move the new optics up/down/left/right inside the binoculars you still see the image repositioning even if the LCDs are fixed.

The new lenses have the possibility to regulate focus ,but since i’m a little bit short-sighted I had to lower down the height of the plastic part of the new lenses, so I don’t need to wear glasses when I use the HMD.

For regulate and fix the new optics I inserted 4 little screws around the diameter of the binoculars, so I can regulate the optics alignment screwing/unscrewing the opposite screws.

I closed the VFX3D display fixing the old VFX1 binocular structure over the half part of VFX3D display panel with hot silicon glue. This way I can move the binoculars from left to right like the old VFX1.

Since I cannot use the old mirror system contained in the old optics I had to rotate the display by 90 degrees and find a way to fix it inside the VFX3d display container.

I fixed with screws a little iron bar in the lower area of the VFX3d display container as you can see in the image

Over this bar I inserted the hacked display rotated by 90 degrees fixing it with a point of hot silicon glue.

That’s all. I had to work for a while for align the LCDs without eye-strain.

I know it’s not a very detailed explanation, but I wanted to publish it just a prove that it IS possible to

improve FOV with some better optics
