Il lago Maggiore (o lago Verbano) è il secondo lago italiano per grandezza, ed una sua parte è situata in territorio svizzero. Ha una superficie di 212 chilometri quadrati. È l'unico lago in Italia che abbia un vero e proprio arcipelago: le Isole Borromee (Isola dei Pescatori PIE-02, Isola Bella PIE-03, Isolino di San Giovanni PIE-04 e Isola Madre PIE-05). Lake Maggiore (also known as Verbano) is a lake basin located between Northern Italy and Switzerland and is the second largest among Italian lakes. It is sheltered by the Alpine ring and has a surface of 212 sq. Km. Particularly favoured by a mild climate and equipped with excellent tourist facilities (hotels and several camping sites), Lake Maggiore is a very popular tourist destination. On its shores many are the internationally renowned places of interest, such as Arona, Belgirate, Stresa, Baveno, Verbania, Cannero and Cannobio. Motoways and railways connect the main Italian cities to all towns on the Lake. For sport fans, there exist a vast range of choice: fishing, water skiing, rowing, sailing, swimming, etc.

Famous for its colours and its flavours, Lake Maggiore offers the visitor a scenario whose beauty can be enjoyed in every season; the famous islands of the Borromeo Gulf (Isola Bella, Isola dei Pescatori, Isola Madre, the islet of San Giovanni), a tiny and picturesque archipelago, seem to be painted in one of the most beautiful landscapes in Italy. The three main islands may be reached cruising the lake on both modern passenger boats and ferries.
