Reference Context

Notwithstanding its homogenity from a methodological and didactic point of view the Liceo Scientifico Statale 'Caminiti', headed by Mr Santo Giovanni Torrisi, is characterized by a complex articolation and by a peculiar social and territorial background.

With its main school in Santa Teresa di Riva and two coordinated schools in Giardini Naxos (20 km from S. Teresa) and Francavilla di Sicilia (40 km), it has to take into account the heterogeneity of motivations and interests due to thedifferent territorial positions of its three schools and to their different socio-economic background.
In fact the Liceo offers its services to a very large and varied territory stretching from Messina Sud to Giardini Naxos, its hinterland included, and containing areas which have different cultural, economic and environmental peculiarities (Agrņ Valley , Jonian Coast , Alcantara Valley )

Broadly speaking we can say that a mixed economy prevails on the Jonian coast (S.Teresa), tourism is the main economic resourse in the area around Taormina (Giardini Naxos), while agriculture and craftsmanship are the main activities in the Alcantara Valley.

An analysis of the territorial context has shown the limited knowledge and the scanty use of modern technologies which on the contrary offer enormous possibilities to our artistic and scenic wealth and attract an increasing number of young people.

 

Objectives

 

  • The project aims to provide the basic multimedia knowledge and the necessary competence in the creation of multimedia products to convey a full-range information on the artistic- cultural resources of the territory. It also aims at the acquisition and fruition of a global knowledge of the national artistic heritage through web contacts among the schools taking part into the project.
  • Therefore the objectives are:
    - encourage those projects which make use of digital multimedia technology to approach themes and sites of historic and artistic importance in their territory.
    - To plan meetings and exchanges via internet among Italian schools in order to compare results and take part in those European projects which encourage the use of new technology in tourism, education, training.
    - To try out new teaching and broadcasting models which permit to interweave art, culture and science through the use of new technology.
    - To plan the most suitable strategies to reach the objectives in peculiar environmental areas and educational fields
    - To guarantee moments of exchange where different realities can meet and know each other.
    - To to approach new aspects of culture and job opportunities

 

 

Activities involved in the project

 
  • Preparatory training . Students will be trained in the research methodology and in the use of the software programs used in the project.
  • Creation of a central data bank. It will collect all the information about the sites, the art works and monuments examined in the project.
  • Gathering all the partner school works - due to arrive within the end of April.
  • Final kirmess when the works carried out by the students will be the object of a conference/workshop with a group of experts who will stress the role of multimedia for a new approach to the artistic heritage. On that occasion a commission will express its opinion on the efficacy of the cultural message sent by the students through their work and on their ability to get those contents through the use of multimedia.
  • All the works will be presented to the audience and will be published together with the conference papers and the commission opinions in the school site called INTERACTIVE Media as evidence of this didactic experience.
  • In order to spread the results of their survey on the artistic heritage our students will collect the materials sent by the partner schools and adapt it in a CD Rom which will be sent to schools by October 2000.
