This is one of most important band for my background .I consider them lp "…and the night became" (1998) like one of the best blackmetal album of ever .Their sound its once again evolved to dark and mighty violence . may be they become in the legend , for me its just that …..Ares for us . First of all congratulations ! you are the pure demonstration that the spirit of pagan fire it's alive ! "Shadows…" it's a magnificent album but I consider it lower in comparison with the masterpiece "…and so night…". So apart from musical differences ,who kind of feelings were hidden in your soul when this opera was create ? First of all ,I must thank you for your kind words . The feelings and ideas that I had in my soul at the time I started to compose "shadows of old" were all kinds of different things ,as always .I wanted to create something majestic (like always) ,but I wanted to add some Death elements to it all due to my love for Death Metal . Also we wanted expand different aspects of our music-style ,the use of Death and Thrash elements here and there really did it for us and this has been done in a higher degree on our newest material .People will maybe miss the good ,old "aeternus-feelings" ,but it's there ,inside of it all . we are going through an era nowadays where we need to use and Death and Thrash within our music ,we are NOT running into Death Metal or anything and I can assure everyone that is for this 4th album only ,that we are doing this . Do you think to "Shadows…" as complete as form of your actually musical essence ? "Shadows of old" speaks of dark emotions ! Our 4th album will do the same ! On "Shadows…" we took some steps away from the "typical" Aeternus ,but the feeling is there ,the darkened atmospheres of might ! Though our new material has a lot of standard Thrash-Death stuff in it ,it speaks of the same emotions one can find on our previous releases . "Shadows of Old" is for ma Dark Metal all the way ,the Aeternus way !!!! Please , tell me why you prefer to named your music like darkmetal ? I think it's too much reductive …couldn't you find something of most grand ? The word Darkness is perfect and highly suitable for our music . We deal with lyrics and music that on an emotional level can be only described as dark .Pure & Simple ! The Northern tradition was already existing before (besides) the Vikings who have put their mark on this religious belief .Do you see both things (Northern tradition and Vikings) as one and the same or do you put a clear line between them ? I really never thought of this too much…….well ,in ways there is a line ,but then again……It also depend on what "Northern tradition" you have in mind ,no ?! ( There is a limit of mail interview….sorry ! ndG). Imagine you would meet the following persons and you could ask one question to each of them ,what would you ask….a) the pope b)Varg Vikernes c) Hitler c) Morrigan d) and me . Oh ,fun-time….Alright…I 'll play… a) "what's wrong with you anyway ?!?!?!" b) "…No Comment …." c) SIEG HEIL ! You crazy bastard ,you're still alive ?!" d) "Hey ,wuzz up ? Let's grab a beer why don't we ?! " e) "So , you're Lord Glacial ??! " Your lyrics take me down in the abyss of darkness and there I find and touch the power of my occult spirit .You know ? So I would to know something about your literary interests ? Are you involved in philosophy ? And above all are you involved in mythology ? Please ,light me…. Our lyrics basically comes from our minds , they are emotions of the dark . Some lyrics speaks of more direct things , such as "Cu-chulain" ,"When the Crows Shadows falls" ,"There's no wine like the Bloods Crimson " !! We usually never know what to write about , the inspiration hits as often very suddenly . No philosophy ,only darkened emotions from ancient souls, wary ,immortal souls . I am not involved in mythology these days ,right now I'm just trying to compose extreme music and it takes up my time 100% ,no time for books ,studying etc….We are hitting studio in June , so there is too much to do for me . I have a strong interest in magic and I will study and practice this in the future . What kind of people do you want to fight ? Who are you enemies ? I don't wish to fight anyone in this life , or in this world .I'm a metal musician ,only my soul and mind is forged by war . My enemies ' Yeah , eh eh ,would not you like to know…. There is a band have a fascinated you latly ? The band you 'll love forever ? Ah , too tricky question…I mean , I fucking dig Morbid Angel and Deicide ,bathory..but I cannot say that will fuckin' love them forever . Now a particular question…I'm the voice of the italian underground and…ehm…we would to know…if possible….is there a tender feeling between you and Morrigan ? Not respond if you want .(We are Italian…) Morrigan is a friend and the bassist in Aeternus ,what I feel for her , I feel for the rest of the band . No special tender feelings . it's okay that you ask , don't think you are the first one…. Back to the music . You have chosen a bagpipe symphony to close your opera . Why ? Because bagpipes rule like stink and it was the perfect closure to us that kind of "outro" on "Shadows of old " ! Now the tiredness of Ares begin to emerge … Do the mysteries of the deep sidereal space fascinated you in some way ? Yeeah ,perhaps… The death . Who die for an ideal ,he live in eternal ! Are you agree ? Is there an ideal death for a warrior like you ? When destiny speaks ,it speaks…Death is the beginning ,not the end… Every man is the God of himself ? For sure !
