regina Judy...... CREPUSCULUM INTERVIEW : by Judy Chiara - Avrigus 1. HAIL AVRIGUS ! FIRST OF ALL I WANT CONGRATULATE YOU FOR YOUR MAJESTIC OPERA .I WOULD ASK YOU THIS ENIGMA : USUALLY THE DARK-AMBIENT MUSIC IS CREATED AND GENERATED IN PLACES WHERE COLD AND WIND RULES ALL THE YEAR.HOW YOU FIND THE IDEAL INSPIRATION IN THE WARM AUSTRALIA ? O Lord Glacial, I am honoured by thy lofty praise! Let me first hasten to assure you that wind and and cold do rule within my soul, for I was born in the northern land of England and raised in the southern land of New Zealand before I came to dwell upon this mercilessly sun-drenched continent that indeed sometimes seems to sit upon the very rim of hell. Fate has decreed that at least for a time I must dwell far, far away from the lands of my ancestors (England and Ireland). My heart bleeds for my true home in the northern hemisphere and therein lies one of my greatest sorrows. All my life I have been educated in the European ways of literature, music and art, yet I am far away from the source (although I have visited three times). It has taught me to seek out and devour every precious morsel of my northern heritage. And there is much evidence here that many have suffered a terrible fate by being severed from their true cultures, in spite of the defiant Aussie spirit you hear so much about. Within my own life, and within the wider world, there is no shortage of inspiration for my music and writings. 2. A NORMAIL MAN IN THE DARKNESS CAN'T SEE OTHER THINGS , BUT I BET YOU SEE SOMETHING OF IMPORTANT FOR YOU ART , ITS REALLY ? Here am I, crouching in the protective cloak of darkness, and you have turned the searchlight upon me. Where can I hide? What can I show you of the gems that I carefully store so secretively within this sacred tabernacle of darkness? Where are the words to describe these personal insights? How can I show you what you seek to know? If you can see that I can see.......then you shall see for yourself! Let me say just this: without the darkness, how could we see the stars? Without the darkness, how could we see the arrival of dawn? And without the darkness, where could we take our weary bodies to rejuvenate when the day has devoured every drop of our essence? 3. IN "QLIPHOT" YOU WRITTEN 16 LINES OF GREY FEELINGS ABOUT THE DEATH (I THINK...).DO YOU THINK THERE?S SOMETHING IN THE AFTERLIFE ? I think there's.....something.....but I don't know what. I don't think it would be anything much like something any human can imagine whilst still in the flesh. I am confident that every belief sytem on earth that has been devised by mankind would turn out to be 99% wrong, including atheism. I am sure that after death, our bodies rot, if they are , permitted to , or rise as smoke and ashes into the atmosphere, or are eaten by vultures, depending upon which culture we are born into. This is not too bad, I think-- to be returned to the elements. But I also think that there are are some mysterious, phenomena that sometimes occur which cannot be explained, e.g. why did my little sister Mary wake my mother to tell her there was a lady in white sitting at the end of her bed.....three nights before she died? Qlipthoth is actually about carnal addiction, not actual death, but loss of the soul. 4. WHAT YOUR MUSIC FOR YOU ? ITS ONLY AN EXPRESSION OF YOUR SOUL OF OTHER ? It is my salvation. 5. THERE?S SOMETHING THAT TAKE TO YOU REGRET, NOSTALGIA, SORROW AND HOW MANY THIS STATE OF MIND HELP YOU TO CREATE YOUR MUSICAL ESSENCE ? All of these. I have formed the habit of putting pain and sorrow, love , any deep feeling that threatens to twist my existence into knots, into some kind of poetic form, with words. Then I might go to the piano and allow my soul to express these feelings by finding notes that resonate wth my emotions. This is how it works for me and it absolutely envelopes my life. 6. WHAT IS THE CONCEPT OF BEAUTY FOR YOU ? In words? It's just something I know when I see it. I'm sorry, I don't know how to describe it. I've never been asked this before. I need time to think about it. 7. PLESE JUDY, CAN YOU DESCRIBE SOMETHING OF INTERESTING OF AVRIGUS STORY ? Simon was former front-man for Australian doom legends, Cruciform until they disbanded in 1995. He plays guitar, drums ,engineers and produces Avrigus. I was classically-trained in piano and singing. Also I sang in choirs when I was young. For a couple of years I performed with just acoustic guitar . I began writing songs a few years ago and when I joined Simon in forming Avrigus, went back to piano and began to compose using layers of orchestral sounds. In March 1998 we released a mini cd entitled 'The Final Wish', which included the tracks The Final Wish, As Ivy Groweth Green, Desolate and Flesh (these two are repeated on The Final Kingdom). Real blood holds no charm for me. I prefer it to stay on the inside, where it belongs. The 'sweet blood infusion' I speak of in 'Til Death Do Us Unite' is meant to be symbolic, to represent life. 8.ARE YOU A DREAMER AND CAN A DREAM CHANGE YOU? Am I a dreamer? Am I ever anything but a dreamer? Never, Do I ever stop dreamimg? Never. Dreaming is my lifeline to my inner world, an escape from what I call 'the ruined world' . 9. THERE'S SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN THIS CRUEL WORLD ? .O you break my heart with this question. It is a matter of faith, perhaps; not religious faith, but a faith in the order of the universe, which continues despite the outrageous behaviour of humans upon this planet. You remind me of something I once wrote years ago after the death of a friend: I understand your need to be free To fly on the wings of eternity No reason to believe is a reason to leave. I understand completely But I was so happy just to see you Always so happy just to be with you So show me how in the here and now I can get this message through to you Perhaps we can just believe in ourselves and reach out to each other. 10.PLEASE LIGHT ME ABOUT YOUR INFLUENCES AND FAVE BANDS ? Classical composers:Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Vivaldi; soundtrack music; Bathory, Anathema, My Dying Bride, Boltthrower. 11. LAST WORDS FOR ME , THANK YOU MY DARK QUEEN....
