The Service Provider (SP) Lock menu is used to lock the cell phone to the
SP's SIM card. Once the cell phone is locked to a specific operator, if one
inserts a SIM card from a different operator the phone will refuse to accept it!
The cell phone will however accept another SIM card from the same operator.

This is a good check before you buy any phone, especially second hand ones.
If phone is SIM locked you may not be able to switch to other operator.

Here is how to activate the menu:

<**<
Lock to Network? if pressing yes you have 5 attempts to enter NCK.

<**<<
Lock to Network subset? if pressing yes you have 5 attempts to enter NSCK.

WARNING
Your phone can be locked to a service provider FOREVER by doing this! If
an invalid code is entered all five times, the menu will exit and be deactivated!
Any further attempt to activate the NCK/NSCK lock Menu will result in the

response "Not allowed"!

Tips & Tricks

Shortcut for Last Dialed call menu...
If you for some reason don't want to enter the 'Last Dialed calls menu' by

using the 'YES' key you can use the following key stroke instead:
First '0' then '#'.

Battery level indicator when turned OFF...
Press 'NO' key quickly once and then wait for about 2 sec for the battery level

to show up in the display at its normal position.

Painless redialing...
The phone will give a short ring automatically when the redial gets through,
so put the phone to your ear only after you hear the ring.
Note: Only works for redial, not first call!

Full Network Name...
You can see the Full Network Name by doing the following:
Go to the network menu, when the phone displays the networks available

(in 'Select net' and 'Edit list' menu) you can press * and you will see the
full name.

Full Operator List...
You can view the full operator list by doing the following:
Go to the 'Edit list' menu under 'networks'. The phone say 'please wait'

(searching for other networks). When finished, Press the < key once,
then YES twice. Now the phone displays the full list. Browse through
the list with the < > keys.

Call a phone number from SMS message...
You can call within a SMS message if the phone number is written in it.
Example of such a SMS message: Call me at 7654321. Just scroll through
the message until phone number appears on the display, then press 'YES' to
call.

Free phone call using GH688 GA768 628... ???
NB! This trick has only been reported working on PREPAID GSM CARDS.

Here's the trick: you dial the number normally and press 'YES'. While
"connecting" is shown on the display, the following procedure should be
carried out. Press 'CLR' then '0' then '#' and then 'NO' twice so as to switch
off the phone. You can then still speak one the phone while it is switched off
but the SIM card does not record your calls which will lead to FREE phone
calls in some countries...

Method 1
    Step 1: Dial the number
    Step 2: Press 'YES'
Step 3: While 'connecting', Press 'CLR'
    Step 4: Press '0'
    Step 5: Press '#'
    Step 6: Press 'NO'
    Step 7: Press 'NO'
Step 8: Phone is OFF now, start talking...

Method 2
Well, I have another 'method' to switch OFF the phone which the procedure

is shorter. I have tried it on my GH688 with normal SIM card (not PREPAID)
I don't know if it works for the free call cos I don't have any PREPAID card...
Step 1: Dial the number
Step 2: Press 'YES'
Step 3: While connecting, Press 'NO' and hold on to it
Step 4: Phone should be OFF.

Method 3 (contribute by Danilo Di Fruscia)
If the trick to make free calls doesn't work, try this:
step1:dial number
step2:press 'yes'
step3:while 'connecting' press 'clr'
step4:press '0'
step5:press '#'
step6:press 'No'
step7:PRESS AND HOLD 'NO'
This trick works with new version of software!!
Try more then one time, with my Gh688 it works very well!!!

It Works
works on Australia Vodafone pre-paid SIM using GA768
"I still get charged about 10c per call, but that is flat rate so I can talk
as long as I like :)" (thanks to Eddie)

Problem Solving Time
If you can make the call with the phone turned off you will face a problem when
you need to hang up the phone...the only way for you to do that is remove the
battery...???
( any other way to solve this? )

If you have tried 'the free phone call' and it works, maybe you can email and
tell me more about it... or you want to provide more info??

( I have received many emails telling me that this does not work, so I believe that
this don't work on most of the SP, and if you can, you must be very lucky :)

The free call method and hide ID for SMS Message doesn't work on the new batch
of GH688 that were made in Malaysia. (thanks to nilfire)
