------------------------------------------------------------ Nanni's configuration files - US & Japanese Ships v. 1.1 2000.12.23 These are the .dp and .cfg files I'm using. It required me quite a lot work to consistently modify the files and to keep track of what it is added and where. I think that the resulting configuration is a rather "common" one. May be someone will save time using it. ------------------------------------------------------------ Mods supported: 1. Long wakes; 2. Long smokestakes and ship fires; 3. Bow splashes; 4. Oilslick; 5. Debris; 6. Increased tracer % (50% for small cal., 40% others); 7. Missing smokestack for Enterprise and other ships; 8. Gunstation for non combat ships; 9. Backdrawn take-off position for carriers. The following table, for each ship, summarizes the mods supported by this configuration. An 'x' means that the mod is active for that ship; an 'X' means that the mod is active and that the ship .dp and/or .cfg files are updated. About missing smokestacks Several ships didn't have smokestakes, the Enterprise was the most significative example. Nibbio added to Enterprise, I did for merchant ships and for the Japanese Torpedo boat. About guns for non combat ships Gunstations for non-combat ships fix the CFS2 bug of non-combat ships not following waypoints, moreover, it adds more realism. For Japanese ships I added an 8mm machinegun as the one mounted on the Japanese light tank. For US ships I mounted a .50 Browning. They both don't hurt much. Anyway, the Nibbio's idea of blocking the mgs so they don't fire at all is supported. I also set a null range for disabled mg. May be fire range is a previously checked condition, in this case a bit of CPU time is saved. By default, for big ships mgs are active (more realistic). To disable them you have to edit the ship .dp file and move the ';' comment char from the dummy mg line to the active mg line (see comments in the file). ------------------------------------------------------------ Credits Bow splashes, long wakes, long smokestakes and ship fires, oilslicks and missing smokestack for Enterprise are from Nibbio. Tricks for tracers and backdrawn take-off position are from discussions on public forums on Combat Flight Center and CFS2 Online, I don't remember the authors, sorry. Gunstation trick for non-combat ships is by Hawkeye II, Nibbio adds the option of blocking the mg so they don't fire at all. ------------------------------------------------------------ Installation Mods from 1 to 2 require modified .fx files: - fx_wake_ss, fx_wake_s, fx_wake_m, fx_wake_l, from wakes.zip; - fx_ship_s, fx_ship_m, fx_ship_l, fx_smokestack, from smokes.zip. Mods from 3 to 5 require new .fx files: - fx_bow, from wakes.zip; - fx_oilslick, from oilslick.zip; - fx_debris_s, fx_debris_m, from Debris-2.0.zip. and updated .dp files. Mods 5 requires also a .bmp texture: - fx_debris.bmp, from Debris-2.0.zip. Mods from 6 to 8 require updated .dp files. Mod 9 requires updated .cfg files. The files wakes.zip, smokes.zip are oilslick.zip available at - http://web.tiscalinet.it/jobim/cfs2 while Debris-2.0.zip is available at - http://web.tiscalinet.it/Nanni/CFS/ Installation steps - Back-up your current configuration (btw, it is possible to restore original CFS2 files by opening with WinZip the CFS2.cab file on the CFS2 CD1); - Retrieve the *.fx files from their original distributions and copy them in the CFS2 EFFECTS directory; - Retrieve the *.bmp file from its original distribution and copy it in the CFS2 TEXTURE directory; - unzip CfShip-1.1.zip starting from your CFS2 directory with the "use folder names" option checked; - delete the .cdp files (CFS2 will rebuild them at start); - restart CFS2 and enjoy. ------------------------------------------------------------ This is freeware; you can copy, modify and distribute it as freeware.
