The "Consorzio Agrario" is simply a co-operative of
farmers, founded in the year 1901 in Siena, one of the oldest and most
beautiful cities of Tuscany. It's important to remember also that the
province of Siena encompasses famous territories of "Brunello" of Montalcino,
"Nobile" of Montepulciano and the majority of "Chianti Classico". The
principle activity of the society is to provide technical means and services
to the agricultural producers of the province and it's hinterlands. The
fact that the "Consorzio" is a co-operative enables its members, of which
there are at present approximately 3500, to be both the principle suppliers
of the Consorzio's agricultural products as well as being, naturally,
the main clientele. This means being able to count on a high reliability
from the raw material suppliers as well as the elevated quality of the
finished products. The "Consorzio" also owns various industrial equipment,
such as the modern "Frantoio Oleario" situated in the heart of Chianti,
it also owns a chain of food stores in the provinces of Siena and Arezzo,
where high quality and typically traditional local products are sold.
With it's packaged Extra Virgin Olive Oil, it is the "Consorzio Agrario
di Siena's" intention to propose the maximum in quality and price, covering
three different levels of market. The oils which cover these three different
types of product, are all subject to strict controls (chemical and "organoleptic"
testing), and all derive from the most prestigious olive plantations in
Tuscany (I.G.P. Toscana) and from central and southern Italy (Made In
Italy).
