Sindacato Italiano Diritti Invalidi [SIDI] | |
The work of SIDI in the HORIZON national project has consisted of the creation of a multimedia database and an Internet site, containing information on the social assistance services for disabled people in Lazio. Special attention has been given to the needs of disabled women, through the creation of a "pink point", within the database, which provides specific information.
Private and public institutions, which could provide the services to respond to the needs of disabled people, were identified. A survey took place, through questionnaires sent to the institutions, asking them to give all the information regarding the services provided, the accessibility of the building, etc. Through research and meetings with disabled people it was soon clear that need for information went well beyond social assistance services. It was therefore decided to include in the data base information regarding everyday life (such as accessible theatres, cinemas, transport, etc.). For the creation of the web-site and its maintenance, a 240-hour course was provided for Internet operators, disabled and not.

HORIZON 1997-2000 | |
HORIZON is the name of one of the four ESF Community Initiatives, and HORIZON funding is targetted at helping people with a disability to secure employment. Similar initiatives exist in favour of women (NOW), young people (YOUTHSTART) and other groups at risk of social exclusion (INTEGRA). All Community Initiative projects combine a domestic project with a transnational project; they are required to be both innovative and capable of generating a strong multiplier effect after suitable dissemination. In common with all ESF funded projects, 45% of total costs are met by the EU while the rest has to come from public authority and private sources. [The ESF contribution can be as high as 75% of total costs in Objective 1 areas.] More information on the EMPLOYMENT and ADAPT initiatives can be found at the EUROPS web-site in English or French. |
