The development of Inforniation and Communication Technologies (ITC), even in healthcare, characterizes the Inforniation Society with a great impact on many involved structures (hospitals, clinical centres, general practitioners, etc.). These technologies improve the cooperation between national and international health service and the integration within hospitals, between hospitals, clinical and ambulatory centres; allow the exchange of clinical data and most of the information and medicai knowIedge, useful for diagnosis and care processes; permit the completeness of information ori patients and the rationalization of health structures and activities.

The INTR@(MED)2 project has been presented in the frame of Eumedis initiative. The aim of this project is to create a medical web portal that will improve the disserniriation and exchange of health care information between the clinicians of various hospitals located in EU Member States and in some Mediterranean Partner States. The portal will facilitate access to clinical databases and the sharing of therapeutic/diagnostic protocols and medical guidelines, and will allow clinical specialists to discuss and examine together difficult clinical cases in order to obtain a better diagnosis and establish good therapies for their patients. It will permit teleconsultation and telediagnosis for some major diseases in the fields of cardiology/cardiosurgery, oncology, neuroscience, orthopaedics, infectious diseases, pediatrics and other areas of the clinical sciences, and stimulate the cooperative learning and training of physicians. The system will be developed and adapted using common standard and accessibie technologies Internet based.

Following the priorities of the EUMEDIS programme the general objective of the INTR@(MED)2 project is to use friendly and affordable solutions in order to interconnect hospitals and medicai instilutions in Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, France, Italy, Malta, Morocco, Portugal and Tunisia, with the aim of creating cooperative working procedures and sharing information knoledge and expertise among medical specialist.
