Difference between the MS5117A and the MS5117P
* The APOLLO PLUS
chipset supports only asyncronous 2nd level cache.
On the chipset with the big VIA logo you can read: VT82C576MV
(PCI-to-ISA
bridge) and VT82C575MV (Hostbridge).
* The APOLLO MASTER chipset
supports both, asyncronous and pipelined burst 2nd
level cache, all MS-5117 with this chipset were produced with
pipelined burst
cache memory. On the VIA chipset you can read: VT82C576M
(PCI-to-ISA bridge)
and VT82C575M (Hostbridge).

Question |
Answer |
On what I have to care when updating the BIOS? | It depends on the chipset version which BIOS you can
use. Verify if you have the VIA APOLLO PLUS or the APOLLO
MASTER chipset |
How is the jumper setting for Intel Pentium P54C 166/200? | Set JK1 as in the manual or JSF for 66 Mhz external
clock, see for example 100/133 Mhz setting. Set JC1 to x2.5
or x3 as in the JSF. |
Turbo LED doesn't switch on or off on my MS-5117. |
Please check first if the turbo LED and the turbo
switch is connected correctly. If yes and the LED still
behaves faulty then clear the CMOS and resetup your
configuration. If that dont help the next thing is
to download the last BIOS for the MS-5117 (differentiate
between VIA Apollo Plus and Master chipset for the BIOS!
) and update/reprogram it. ! Now the turbo LED should
work as expected. |
Where I can see if I have the VIA APOLLO PLUS or the
newer APOLLO MASTER chipset? |
The APOLLO PLUS chipset supports only asyncronous 2nd
level cache. On the chipset with the big VIA logo you can
read: VT82C576MV (PCI-to-ISA bridge) and VT82C575MV (Hostbridge).
The latest BIOS for the MS-5117 with Apollo Plus Chipset
is W976, newer BIOS like W97D will not work!!! The APOLLO MASTER chipset supports both, asyncronous and pipelined burst 2nd level cache, all MS-5117 with this chipset were produced with pipelined burst cache memory. On the VIA chipset you can read: VT82C576M (PCI-to-ISA bridge) and VT82C575M (Hostbridge). The latest BIOS for it is W97 |
I don`t get the Cyrix 6x86 CPUs to work with the MS-5117
with VIA APOLLO PLUS chipset. |
We are sorry, but there is no solution for this
problem, because the VIA Apollo PLUS chipset cant
use the Cyrix CPU. |
The bios flashing is impossible !! | Sometimes the OEM vendors (Vobis etc..) replace the
flash eeprom with Eeprom or ROM: if so, the bios flashing
is impossible . Otherwise, this problem can depend upon an incorrect award flasher version use. |
How can I clear the Nvram? | Use NVRAM.EXE utility (expecially after bios update) |
