In
2002 the Dutch Aphasia Association celebrates its 25th. anniversary. One of
the main activities is the organisation of an international conference, which
will be held from September 26-29.
Program
for Aphasiologists such as neurolinguists, clinical linguists, nuerologists,
neuropsychologists and speech therapists/speech pathologists.

International Aphasia Conference 2002
Zeist, The Netherlands, September 26-29th
Thursday September 26th
Bound for: aphasiologists (speech therapists, speech pathologists, neurolinguïsts,
clinical linguists, neuropsychologists, neurologists and other specialists
who work with aphasia).
Theme: Aphasiology - its history and new developments
Subjects: history of aphasiology, history of aphasia research in The Netherlands,
language deterioration in healthy and language impaired elderly, aphasia in
adolescents and young adults, language and right hemisphere, aphasia treatment
in the acute stage, neurophysiological correlates for recovery of aphasia,
primary progressive aphasia and multidisciplinary assessment of aphasia.
Starting at 8.30 AM, 12 speakers will inform the participants about the latest
developments in the subjects they are specialised in. The program will be
interrupted by coffee, lunch and tea breaks. Closure at 18.00 PM; opportunity
to remain talking with speakers and other participants till 19.00 PM.
Friday September 27th
Bound for: aphasiologists (speech therapists, speech pathologists, neurolinguists,
clinical linguists, neuropsychologists and other specialists that work with
aphasia).
Theme: speakers who presented a lecture on Thursday will offer several workshops
today to discuss clinical implications of their scientific research.
Subjects: the efficacy of theory driven aphasia treatment, clinical tools
for the assessment of aphasia in the acute state, counselling of adolescents
and young adults with aphasia, the assessment of language in individuals with
right hemisphere damage, language in healthy elderly speakers: consequences
for clinical practice and counselling of families with an aphasic member.
Opening: 9.00 AM; closure at 17.00 PM.
Saturday September 28th
Bound for: members of the Dutch Aphasia Association, volunteers and all other
laymen who are involved with aphasia. Special guests: delegations of National
Aphasia Associations that are joined in the Association Internationale Aphasie
(A.I.A).
Theme: students in aphasiology will discuss the consequences of the latest
scientific theories for aphasic people and their families.
The Board of the Dutch Aphasia Association gladly invites the participants
to attend the festivities starting at the end of this conference day. There
will be a reception at 17.00 hours, followed by a dinner (buffet) and a festive
evening that offers all present the possibility to exchange information and
experiences with companions from all over the world. Costs for dinner, drinks
and snacks are all inclusive. Closure at midnight.
Sunday September 29th
The final day of the conference is for guests from the Association Internationale
Aphasie (A.I.A.) only. Vice presidents of the national organisations and board
members are invited to attend the A.I.A General Assembly. A special trip to
a touristic scenery in the neighbourhood of Zeist will be offered to those
guests, that will remain in Zeist till Monday morning.
