EARTHQUAKE:
CAMPOBASSO, CENTRE FOR THE COORDINATION OF THE RESCUE ACTIVATED
EPICENTRE
IN THE AREA OF “BASSO MOLISE”
The
Prefecture of CB has activated the centre for the coordination of the rescue to
deal with the first emergency after the earthquake that struck the area around
the Molisan city about one hour ago. At the moment there are no precise news of
the damage but it looks like that the earthquake, measuring 6 on the Mercalli
scale and whose epicentre has been localized in the area of “Basso Molise”,
caused huge damage in small villages like San Giuliano di Puglia and Bonefro. At
the moment the mobile phones are in tilt and the house phones are not working
properly.

MOLISE THE ROOF OF A NURSERY SCHOOL COLLAPSED
The strong shakes of the earthquake of this morning brought down the roof of a nursery school in San Giuliano di Puglia (CB). The firemen arrived immediately on the spot.
3) EARTHQUAKE: CAMPOBASSO, CHILDREN TRAPPED INSIDE A PRIMARY SCHOOL
While the first data on the earthquake that struck the Molise are arriving, there are the news that the earthquake, measuring 8 on the Mercalli scale, brought down a primary school in San Giuliano di Puglia (CB) and 50 children are trapped inside. A team of firemen is reaching the place. The vice president of the region is coordinating the rescue.

EARTHQUAKE: MOLISE, 4 CHILDREN DIED IN SAN GIULIANO DI PUGLIA
THE BULLETIN OF MR. PATRICELLO,THE VICE PRESIDENT OF THE REGION
Four is the number of the children that so far died after the earthquake that struck violently San Giuliano di Puglia, the small village in Molise. The news are coming from Mr. Aldo Patricello, the vice president of the region. The rescuers continue to dig through the rubble; they say they hear the voices from those still trapped. So far, about 20 children have been rescued, some of them in serious conditions.
5) EARTHQUAKE: MOLISE, JANITOR RESCUED FROM THE RUBBLE
A janitor was rescued from the rubble of the school of San Giuliano di Puglia and was sent immediately to the hospital. While the rescuers are digging in the hope to save the children still trapped under the rubble, there is fear that the number of victims can increase as the time passes by.

A new shake struck few minutes ago San Giuliano di Puglia. It is unknown the strength of the quake or if it caused further damages
7) EARTHQUAKE: SOLIDARITY FROM THE PRESIDENTS OF THE REGIONS
The presidents of the regions that are meeting in Palermo in a common session, expressed “a deep grief for the dramatic consequences of the earthquake that struck this morning” and “full solidarity for the people hit by the earthquake”. A solidarity that today was given to the presidents of Molise and Abruzzo and of the other regions interested by the earthquake. The presidents assured also “the full collaboration among regions inside the activities of civil protection”. In the next hours it will be evaluated further help and assistance for the areas struck by the earthquake.
8) EARTHQUAKE: MOLISE, THE ASSISTANCE IS STARTING
The assistance has started in order to deal with the emergency for the earthquake in Molise. From the Civil Protection in Roma are arriving 100 tents that will guarantee 800 sleeping places for the population evacuated from their houses. 2500 mattresses electric groups and technical supports are arriving from the XXI Artillery Regiment in Foggia. Assistance is arriving also from Army Groups located in Friuli and Brindisi. This evening the meals will be provided by the Red Cross while tends are prepared next to the soccer field in San Giuliano di Puglia, the more damaged area and where a school collapsed trapping more than 60 people, 20 of them already rescued. The official number of the victims is at the moment 6: 4 children and 2 adults even if not confirmed data talk about 9 victims.

EARTHQUAKE: BERLUSCONI GOES TO CAMPOBASSO
VISIT TO THE AREA STRUCK BY THE EARTHQUAKE
Silvio Berlusconi left a while ago for Campobasso. The premier decided to visit the area struck by the earthquake. The prime minister has been all day long in touch with Guido Bertolaso the responsible of the civil protection, that briefed him constantly on the development of the situation in the school in San Giuliano di Puglia.
10) EARTHQUAKE: MOLISE, 30 THE CHILDREN RESCUED, 7 THE VICTIMS
At the moment the children rescued from the rubble of the school in San Giuliano di Puglia collapsed this morning are 30. The number of the victims is unchanged: 5 children and 2 adults.

EARTHQUAKE: MOLISE,
the estimation of the damage started
Piero Ucci, the vice prefect vicarious of the Campobasso province, delegated the “Provveditore alle opere pubbliche” of Molise to start the verification of the damaged buildings with the support of the technicians, geologists and geophysicist of the Molise University, Province of Campobasso, the communes and the Territory Agency. Also the technicians from the Agency of the Region Marche, Province of L’Aquila and the professional orders of engineers and surveyors will participate to the evaluation of the damages. The department heads of the Fire Brigade, Public Assistance and Civil Defence of the Interior Affairs Minister and Civil Protection are now in the area struck by the earthquake.
12) EARTHQUAKE: MOLISE, 24 THE VICTIMS AMONG THEM 22 CHILDREN
The number of victims of the earthquake that yesterday struck the Molise with quakes measuring up to 8 on the Mercalli scale, has increased to 24, among them 22 are children. According to data, still provisional, the bodies of 22 children were pulled out from the rubbles of the nursery, primary and junior high school F. Jovine of San Giuliano di Puglia.
13) EARTHQUAKE: MOLISE, 5 CHILDREN AND A TEACHER UNDER THE RUBBLE
There are still 5 children and a teacher trapped under the rubble of the school of San Giuliano di Puglia collapsed after the earthquake that yesterday struck the Molise. The rescuers continued to dig all night in order to save the children but as the time passes by the hope to find somebody still alive is getting lower. The last child pulled out alive from the rubble was able to rejoice his parents little after 4 o’clock this morning. In the meantime the number of victims increased to 24, among them 22 children.

The molisan people abroad get together for the earthquake that struck hardly their region and are so many the messages of solidarity that arriving from all over the world.
15) EARTHQUAKE: LONDON OFFERS HELP FOR THE MOLISE.
JACK STRAW, OUR HEARTS WITH THE FAMILIES OF SAN GIULIANO
Our hearts are with the families of the children of San Giuliano”. The British foreign affairs minister Jack Straw follows from London the tragedy caused by the terrible earthquake in Molise and says that UK is ready to send a team of experts in the area struck by the quake. Today the Times refers that the offer was sent officially to the Italian government and now they are waiting for an answer.
16) EARTHQUAKE: SAN GIULIANO IN THE TITLES OF THE FOREIGN NEWSPAPERS
The tragedy of San Giuliano went around the world and the collapse of the school in the small Molisan village, with so many dead children is on all the foreign newspaper with the pictures of the rescuers.

touching conversation
The president of the Republic Carlo Azelio ciampi called this night the mayor of San Giuliano di Puglia, Antonio Borrelli, that lost his daughter Antonella in the collapse of the school F. Jovine. It was a touching conversation, during which the President asked the first citizen of the Molisan village to extend his sympathy to all families.
18) EARTHQUAKE: CAMPOBASSO, THE EARTH SHAKES AGAIN
TWO MORE QUAKES THIS MORNING MEASURING BETWEEN 3 AND 5 ON THE MERCALLI SCALE
The earth still shakes in the Campobasso area. The National Institute of geophysics registered 2 quakes of magnitudo 3 and 3.5 corresponding to 3 and 4-5 on the Mercalli scale. The quakes struck at 10:27 and 10:45 the areas of Bonefro, Montorio dei Frentani, Montelongo and also San Giuliano di Puglia where the rescuers are still digging to save the lives of the children still trapped under the rubble of the school.
19) EARTHQUAKE: MOLISE THE ASSISTANCE AT FULL REGIME
The volunteers of the Civil Protection operating in the areas struck by the earthquake in the province of Campobasso are 900 but soon they will become 1500. Today 4000 meals are assured while waiting for the 4 camp kitchens arrived in the region to become operative. In addition the mobile army groups are arriving from Friuli and Veneto.
20) EARTHQUAKE: LAST BULLETIN, SO FAR 27 VICTIMS
DAMAGED 80% OF THE BUILDINGS IN SAN GIULIANO
The last tragic balance arriving from San Giuliano gives 27 victims. Among the 62 people inside the school F. Jovine yesterday at the moment of the collapse caused by the earthquake, 25 are dead - 24 children and 1 teacher- 34 people - 30 children, 2 teachers and 2 janitors – were pulled alive from the rubble. In addition to this sad list, two more adults that were not inside the school died for the earthquake.
