This Thesis aims at changing the concept of self-help building, no longer seen as "a tool for organizing general building processes" but, rather, as a "whole procedure through which human and material resources can be exploited for a rational organization of the premises composing one's living place".

This Research applies to general users, without specific notions in the Architectural and Informatic fields, of different social status, age, working experience, income, etc… Starting from this point, I have chosen to deal with the problem on a hypertext basis, which - thanks to its extreme flexibility - allows to treat the various subjects in a direct and functional way so as to create different types of looking up routes.

The hierarchic and necessary steps, the background colours, the assemblage kits and self-help building units, where all the laws and rules in force have been taken into account, makes this Thesis an ideal "workshop" of new proposals both for newly graduates and for renown professionals. Another purpose of this work is the use of Software capable of a straight interaction with the suggested multimedia system, both for a manageable tridimensional rendering, and for general Informatic program utilities. I hope that, thanks to the above outlined features, my Research will encourage new ideas and original arguments for discussion about the latest developments of "Virtual City" and "Newsgroup". I also wish this work can be a starting point for a profitable relationship among Institutions, private citizen and professional in the field of self-help building projects.
