Gradara
(Dist. 35 Km, 142 m above sea level)
It is mentioned
for the first time in documents from 1032 as "curte gradariae". Its
origins are quite remote and the entrance archway to the village,
given its unusual structure, is most certainly older than the walls and
may date back to the Roman period. The walls surrounding the centre have
passages which allow visitors, especially on summer nights, to enjoy an
atmosphere and panorama that are truly enchanting. The Malatestas, who
established themselves here around 1260.

Ravenna
(Dist. 48 Km)
Serene
and resplendent Byzantine Ravenna, the capital of barbarian Italy.
Situated on the coast, this town has a total of eight monuments that have
been declared to be a precious heritage for all of
humanity.
This
is enormous but well-deserved recognition of the splendour of the mosaics
hidden within the quiet, simple architecture of the basilicas constructed
of small bricks.
Ravenna,
like all cities rich in art and history, must be taken in
unhurriedly.

four gateways.

the 12th century Church of San Mercuriale with its Lombard bell tower.
The
romanesque-Gothic Palazzo del Podestà (15th century) and the Palazzina
degli Albertini can also be admired.
A few kilometres

Urbino
(Dist. 65 Km, 485 m above sea level)
The town is built
on a hill that divides the valley of the River Foglia from that of the
River Metauro. The Palazzo Ducale, commissionned by Federico II di
Montefeltro in 1455, is certainly the monument that most symbolizes
Urbino. Next to the palace is the 18th century Duomo which houses the
Albani Museum. In the crypt there is a Giovanni Bandini Pietà.
Nella cripta una Pietà
di Giovanni Bandini è in stile gotico.
The imposing
fortified remains of the Albornoz Fortress are worth visiting in order to
admire the ample panorama over the Montefeltro area until San Marino and
the arches and turrets of the Palazzo Ducale.
