IGLESIAS CITY

I glesias is a little town in south-west Sardinia. There are 30,000 inhabitants and its territory is on the oldest lands in Europe, about 600 million years old. It is a town full of art, traditions and hospitality ; the mines are the most important evidences of a glorious and rich history. The city centre is magic: you feel like living in the Middle ages, so walk and see the castle, the Cathedral, the walls, but also look up at the balconies, the windows and the people. Around Iglesias you can see many villages and fantastic landscapes ; the mountains of the Marganai Park are really beautiful and you can feel in harmony with nature every time you breathe in the clean air : rivers, wild animals and woods are examples of a perfect environment. The sea : there are no adjectives enough to describe the seashores of Iglesiente. The long and clean beaches extend northwards for many miles in a wonderful sequence of colours and uncontaminated panoramas. The mines : for more than three thousand years this land has given life and prosperity to its inhabitants, from father to son. We are proud and hard-working people : we have inherited a long tradition made of legends, culture, tears and struggles. The long, sometimes dramatical story of the mines still lives along with the new generations. The Iglesiente are friendly and peaceful people, and the tourist will be happy after a holiday in the town : you can admire many religious rites, in particular during the Holy Week and in August, or the churches, or the folk dances, but also cookery and jewellery are very interesting. In this short guide we will lead you through the history and the present beauty of Iglesias and its territory. We hope you enjoy everything we can offer to you and we wish to see you again. So, follow us ! Let's start with...
