The
knife: from a weapon to a jewel
T he knife (Italian coltello,
from the Latin cultellus) was invented to arm man and
make him less vulnerable in his hunt for survival.
In Sardinia the
jack-knife is called resolza, from the Latin rasoria;
this kind of knife need some form of protection from
accidental hurting with its sharp steel blade.
In his knives,
Antonio Deroma interprets the first need of creating
manageable, safe, efficent tools, by selecting the best raw
materials avaliable in nature, removing them and shaping them
to create a harmonious whole that should also be spectacular
at the same time.
This is how Antonio
Deroma's knives, that were created as weapons, evolved into
jewels.
