ASSOCIAZIONE ARGENTARIO VIVO |
What Argentario Vivo is

The association "Argentario Vivo"
was founded on 20th September 1988
at Porto S.Stefano by a group of people
who are fond of Mount Argentario, of its
historical and traditional customs.

Since its birth the Association proposes, without any profit purposes and with spirit of assistance, to promote any public or private activity of cultural-recreational, promotional and publishing interest, to search and retain all the historical traditions of the Argentario (art. 7), contribuiting in this way to introduce as much as possible the Argentario in all its aspects. |
| During its years of life,
"Argentario Vivo" has dealt with some important initiatives both cultural and
promotional for Mount Argentario. It has edited a book about the most ancient watch-tower on the Promontory, where according to a legend it would be hidden a very valuable treasure constituited by a golden brooding chicken and twelve silver chicks. |

In 1984, on mandate of the Town Council of Mount Argentario, "Argentario Vivo" has also dealt with the partecipation of the local representative at the European competition "Games without borders" (Joeux sans frontiers), getting the second prize at the grand final in Madeira (Portugal). |
| The main initiative to which the Association dedicates most of its care in collaboration with the Town Council and the "Comitato Palio" is the organization of the Historical Parade which takes place on the occasion of the traditional rowing competition of the "Palio Marinaro dellArgentario", on 15th August. |
|
|
The Historical Parade consists of about two hundred figurants who wear beautiful 17th century costumes, when Mount Argentario was part of the Garrison State, a small State under the influence of the Spanish Crown. The costumes, the arms and all the accessories are accurate reconstructions of that period. |
