This needs to be read twice to be believed: "MSNBC is running a contest for photo of the year; among the contenders is the infamous photo of 12-year old Muhammad Durra. To us, this photographs epitomizes everything tragic about the present violence: CHILDREN LED INTO THE CROSSFIRE BY THEIR OWN PARENTS FOR PUBLICITY PURPOSES. To much of the rest of the world, thanks to media misinformation and propaganda, it represents something far different." This is a quote from an email sent by the Israeli consulate (see below) with my emphasis. It was sent when the Durra's picture was voted number one for a while. After the Consulate's msg was sent, the picture dropped to number six and a picture of a dog took its place as number one. As of today, the picture is at number four. Incidentally, if you'd like to vote for the Muhammad Durra's picture simply go this web site, select the picture and click on Vote (it's kind of important, if you think about it). http://www.msnbc.com/modules/surveys/twip/yip_2000_readers_.asp#survey -Ami Kronfeld >From the Israeli Consulate Call for Action Dear Friends: Many of you have expressed interest in more actively supporting Israel, and we have tried to underscore to you the importance of showing America, Israel, and the world that you stand with us against Muslim extremism and media bias. Below is a perfect and easy opportunity to demonstrate your support. MSNBC is running a contest for photo of the year; among the contenders is the infamous photo of 12-year old Muhammad Durra. To us, this photographs epitomizes everything tragic about the present violence: children led into the crossfire by their own parents for publicity purposes. To much of the rest of the world, thanks to media misinformation and propaganda, it represents something far different. The Muslim and Arab community has whipped up an onslaught of support for this photo; we urge you to match and exceed their activism and organization by making certain that it does not win. Go to the website below, vote for one of the other photos, and forward the message to everyone on your mailing list. These, the small battles, can make a tremendous difference for public opinion here in America and for morale back home in Israel. We know you will not let this call go unheeded. "All of Israel is responsible each for the other." Thank you for your help. Meirav Eilon Shahar Consul for Communications and Public Affairs Consulate General of Israel in Los Angeles
