Israeli forces commit another extra-judicial killing
More escalation in aggression against Palestinian civilians and Security
Forces Over the past three days the Israeli forces have escalated
acts of aggression against Palestinian civilians, security forces
and police headquarters. In the latest onslaught they have used surface-to-surface
missiles, missiles launched from battleships and gunships, as well
as artillery shells and automatic gunfire against Palestinian residential
areas and security force outposts. They have also carried out several
attacks inside Palestinian-controlled areas, with Israeli troops and
tanks crossing checkpoints and boundaries separating PA-controlled
areas from the rest of the occupied territories. They have bulldozed
several dunums of cultivated Palestinian land and knocked down many
Palestinian houses. The Gaza Strip has been the worst hit by these
attacks, especially Gaza city, Dier Al Balah, Rafah, Biet Lahia and
the town of Al Karara. Also affected have been the West Bank towns
of Al Bireh (near Ramallah) and Jenin. At 11:30 am on Saturday 12
May 2001, two helicopters fired four missiles at a Palestinian vehicle
traveling near the Ministry of Interior in Jenin, targeting a Fatah
activist and two Palestinian general intelligence officers. Mutasim
Al Sabagh and a transport police officer died in the attack. LAW Societyís
field researcher stated that just before 11:30 am, four Israeli Apache
gunships were hovering over Jenin. Two of them, flying over the northern
part of the town, sent down four missiles onto a car in which three
Palestinians were traveling. The three had seen the Israeli gunship
before the missiles were fired and they left the vehicle promptly.
28-year-old Mutasim Al Sabagh, a Fatah activist from Jenin refugee
camp, did not manage to escape and was hit in the head, chest, abdomen,
right leg and hand by shrapnel. He was admitted to Rafidia hospital
in Nablus where he died of his injuries. Abdul Kareem Awees, 27, and
Yusif Al Kisi, 26, both Palestinian general intelligence officers
also from Jenin refugee camp, were wounded but survived, although
the offensive also killed a 26-year-old Alam Al Jaludi, a Palestinian
police officer from Fakuía, who died instantly after being hit in
the head by shrapnel. On May 10, Israeli forces trespassed into Palestinian-controlled
areas in Yibna refugee camp, Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip near the
Egyptian border. LAW received information from Gaza stating that Israeli
armed units, tanks, and bulldozers trespassed 200 meters into Palestinian
controlled areas, destroying two houses and several chicken farms
and bulldozing areas of cultivated land. The attack included heavy
firing and artillery shelling on Palestinian homes in Yibna refugee
camp, wounding seven Palestinians including five civilians: 1. Nafiz
Abu Taha, 38, shrapnel wounds in the right leg 2. Hisham Abu Taha,
22, shrapnel wounds in the right hand; lost his fingers 3. Mahmoud
Khafaj, 20, shrapnel in the abdomen 4. Mahmoud Salama, 21, shot in
the right foot 5. Mahmoud Al Zatmi, 19, shrapnel wounds in the chest
and left arm 6. Abdul Aleem Al Hamas, 42, Security Force officer,
shot in the right leg 7. Hasan Abu Shbaika, 40, Security Force officer,
shot in the left leg Four Israeli tanks accompanied by a bulldozer
attacked Yibna again on Thursday, but Palestinian civilians and Security
Forces faced the invasion. Clashes took place and the Israeli army
used artillery shells and automatic guns, wounding the following:

Abu Abeed, 32, wounded by shrapnel in the abdomen 3. Ibraheem Abu

Israeli forces fired surface-to-surface missiles on Gaza city, hitting
civilian and security installations in the city. An Israeli helicopter
directing the missiles attack was seen hovering above Gaza during
the onslaught. LAW was informed that the Israeli missiles hit several
headquarters inside the General Security installations known as Al
Saraya: 1. The headquarters of the Scientific Committee, the place
was burned 2. The Transport Section of the General Security, the place
was severely damaged 3. The buildings of the Security Services, the
windows were smashed Two missiles hit the third and fourth floors
of the Fatah Central Command, creating two 1-meter-diameter holes
and injuring the following people: 1. Adham Shatara, 22, wounded by
shrapnel in the face 2. Salem Al Ribaíee, 31, wounded by shrapnel
in the head 3. Salem Al Sharfa, 12, wounded by shrapnel in the face
4. Yihya Al Samous, 44, wounded by shrapnel in the different parts
of the body 5. Mohammad AL Hawajri, 35, wounded by shrapnel in the
leg 6. Adham Husu, 32, wounded by shrapnel in the face 7. Azeez Al
Susi, 3, wounded by shrapnel in the head 8. Raed Al Arabeed, 25, wounded
by shrapnel in the right arm The following Palestinians were wounded
when an Israeli tank positioned east of Al Karara in Khan Yunis opened
fire on a Palestinian border outpost midday Thursday: 1. Naseem Al
Fara, 53, wounded by shrapnel in the left leg 2. Sameer Khashan, 40,
wounded by shrapnel in the right leg 3. Abdul Kareem Abu Rayda, 30,
wounded by shrapnel in the left leg 4. Hani Abu Rkab, 28, wounded
by shrapnel in both legs Two Israeli bulldozers and four tanks arrived
after the shelling to knock down what was left of the Palestinian
outpost while the tanks fired artillery shells. They trespassed Palestinian
controlled areas northeast Al Karara and bulldozed a square kilometer
of cultivated land. An Israeli battleship launched an attack on a
Force 17 training position on the beach near Dier Al Balah on Friday
morning, firing fifteen rockets on the site from a distance of two
hundred meters. The building was severely damaged. Another Israeli
armed unit launched an offensive on a Palestinian Security Forces
position near Saladin Street and Abu Holly junction on Friday morning.
Later, Israeli bulldozers and tanks trespassed 500 meters within Palestinian
boundaries and demolished the houses of the following Palestinians:
1. Hamud Abu Holly (200m¾, and accommodated three people) 2. Said
Abu Holly (150m¾, accommodated eight people) 3. Majdi Abu Holly (130m¾,
accommodated eight people) 4. Hani Abu Holly (220m¾, accommodated
six people) 5. Sahir Abu Holly (180m¾, accommodated five people) Two
artillery shells landed on the 300m¾ house of Majid Abu Holly, causing
large-scale destruction to the house, which accommodates six people.
On the same day (Friday) Israeli forces in Erez fired three artillery
shells on Biet Lahia; two landed next to the police station, injuring:
1. Akram Daheel, 16, shrapnel wound in the shoulder, chest, and back
2. Nuser Abu Faraya, 17, shrapnel wound in the right leg 3. Omar Abu
Daheel, 17, shrapnel wound in the shoulder The third shell landed
on top of Mustafa Shakuraís house, risking the lives of his 11-member
family. Fortunately the shell did not detonate and was later dismantled
by an expert. On Friday afternoon, Israeli soldiers at Netsarim opened
fire on a group of demonstrating youngsters. They shot 16-year-old
Husam Tafish in the right side of the chest, killing him instantly.Three
