The "immaculate conception" The coming into activity of the Christ in us is the result of an exalted idea sown in the mind. Therefore Mary, the soul, becomes devout and expectant and believes in the so-called miraculous as a possibility. Mary expected the birth of the Messiah as the Holy Spirit had promised. She was overshadowed by that high idea, and it formed in her mind the seed that quickened into the cell. In due season there were aggregations of cells strong enough in their activity, and what is called the birth of Jesus took place. Metaphysically interpreted, Mary, the virgin mother, represents a pure state of mind that ponders spiritual things and believes in revelations from angels and messengers from God. Mary was "found with child of the Holy Spirit," which refers to the miraculous conception by which the Virgin Mary is held to have conceived without original sin. Jesus' real mission Jesus' work and mission was not to take away our free-agency and exalt us into glory by us simply saying we believed on him, or to say that we know that He existed, or that he is the Son of God. Such an idea is preposterous - yet is the common belief of many. His entire mission was to show us just how the great power of that inner light worked, and how we could, by following the pattern He gave, receive the same power and do the very works that He did, even greater works. Ask any Christian on the earth if he believes in Jesus Christ, and he will most emphatically answer, "Yes." Ask him to prove his statement and he will fail utterly. "If you believe in MY NAME, ye can ask anything and it will be done unto you." Is that statement false? Is His promise or word a mistake, or a lie where He declared, "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, that if you believe on me, the works that I do shall you do also - and greater works than these shall ye do - because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the son. If ye shall aks anything in my Name, I will do it". Not for one instant are these statements or promises false. They are the most true promises ever uttered. It is man who has failed - failed to understand or believe in THE POWER OF THE NAME. The name "Jesus" is the Greek derivation of "Joshua" or, according to the ancient Hebrew, "Jeshua" or "Yehshua." "Jah" or "Yah" means literally "I shall be." And "shua" means "powerful." Thus Jesus is a promise - the promise "I shall be powerful." And the word "Christ" means "Anointed" or "Anointed with light", thus completing the promise and power of the name. "I shall be powerful when anointed with light!" Do you believe in that name? Have you ever believed in it? Or has any man ever understood or believed in the powerful name of Jesus Christ? If he has believed in that name, then he has fulfilled that name within himself, and can do the works that Christ did. But most emphatically mankind has not understood its meaning and has not received the powers attached to it. They have believed the great Personage who symbolized the fulfillment of that power is the One who is to lift them into glory while all that is necessary is to sit weakly back and let Him do it - all of it - not realizing that each man must fulfill that NAME in his own life. Alas! this greatest gift has seldom been received or understood. For I so loved the world I gave my only begotten Son that whosoever believed in him would not perish but have everlasting life. It is a generally accepted belief that Jesus was my only begotten Son. Some of you have been taught that if you believe Jesus was the only begotten of the Father, you will not perish, you will have everlasting life after you have died. The real truth is that the only begotten of the Father is a Grand Cosmic Being, a perfect man or woman, a radiant image clothed in robes of shimmering Light, a godlike ideal who claims the cosmos for his playground and comes and goes with the speed of thought, a joyous being whose vibration is quickened to the rate of mine and whose consciousness is as expansive as mine— the Living Christ. Yes, I so loved the world and all my children in it that I gave to each and every one of you this most cherished gift—I created you by the pattern of the Living Christ. My only command to you was that you believe it and live accordingly. So simple, so easy. My image and likeness placed inside each and every one as your nucleus, your very mind and soul, and all you have to do is believe in your own Self. In spite of your doubts, that submerged mind of divine holiness is a living part of you; your polluted reservoir of feeling contains power enough to erect mountains; and my image is your identity for I am truly your Light of Life. If you do not believe my words, try believing in the Grand Cosmic Being, try feeling Its identity inside you, and you will see for yourself. That is what Jesus did, of course, and when you were instructed to let the same mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, you were not being told to try to develop this mind, or evolve it, or create it, but just to elevate it and let it express. When Jesus learned that divine omniscience is the nucleus of everyone, he held his life in prayerful stillness till he was conscious of my presence, then took up residence with me and began to experience all wisdom, all love, all power.
