This project, fruit of the labour of the Diocese of Locri-Gerace, that has been working on creating a Cooperative with industrious young Calabrians. The Cooperative is called Valle del Bonamico: it organizes young unemployed of the region of Plati by producing "futti di bosco", or wild fruits, and "formaggio pecorino", or Pecorino cheese. The "Wild Fruits" division produces raspberries, currant berries, and blackberries; Thanks to the mutually supportive relationship with the Co-Operative Sant'Orsola of Pergine-Valsugana (Trento), we established an agreement that absorbs our production almost completely. The "Pecorino Cheese" division has been more and more accepted in the regions of Lombardia and Trentino; here pecorino cheese has not been as popular up to now, probably because it has not been part of the local culinary tradition. The Bonamico Pecorino is a soft, creamy cheese, that can be eaten fresh or well seasoned. The fragrant flavor and smell are typical, just as the supple taste of fresh milk that it leaves on the palate. It is the genuine product of the wild and pristine pastures of the Aspromonte and it is the fruit of solidarity and co-operation. To buy and enjoy Pecorino Bonamico is to taste a healthy product, made with quality ingredients and care. It is also a way to contribute by helping to build a new economy based on co-operative self-reliance and an effective way of fighting unemployment. Most of all, it is a way of creating a new way of thinknig that will ameliorate our social environment, in direct opposition to the tyranny established by the mafia.
