Sambonifacio, that houses the Cantina del Castello.
The courtyard of the building, Corte Pittora, is named after the old and noble Pittore family who ordered the erection of this palace in the 13th century, whose property was later transferred to the Counts Sambonifacio. Its narrow underground tunnel is believed to have been used as a passage
to Castello Scaligero. For this reason, in the Sixties, when the winery
started its business, the name of Cantina del Castello was chosen.

The Cantina del Castello winery is owned by Arturo Stocchetti. He has been leading with passion this
winery for more than twenty years and he is still trying to carry on the culture and the great tradition of the Soave wine.
The originality of Soave and a deep link with the territory are the values that lead Arturo in his job. The winery is quite small: around 5 acres of vineyards in the historic Classic area of Soave. According to this, the vines of Garganega and Trebbiano of Soave, trained with the traditional pergoletta Veronese and short espalier, Guyot, are followed with great care and the whole wine making process, from the pressing to the bottling, is carefully looked after. The company makes wine from its own grapes, which provides a production of about one hundred twenty thousand bottles of a variety of Soave Classico types: Brut di Soave Classico, Soave Classico, single-vineyard cru of Soave Classico, Recioto di Soave and Grappa di vinaccie di Recioto. |
