The island is characterized by a very uneven surface, although its highest altitude is 211 m above sea level. Only in some points the ground is flat or slightly sloping, chiefly where there are alluvial sediments. Wind erosion is extremely visible in the northward and north-western sides, from where strong winds that can reach 100 Km per hour blow from mistral. Sea erosion along the cost contributes to increase the uneveness typical of this extraordinary volcanic scenary.
