The "Saline" of Carloforte were built in 1737 when the village was founded. The idea of the project was due to Agostino Tagliafico, the notable of Tabarqa, who at the request of King Charles Emanuele III, explored the island of San Pietro. At first, the production of salt was carried out by simple devices and only in the second half of last century, modern technologies were introduced. This activity represented a sure source of earnings for the inhabitants of Carloforte and a sure job for young people.
