This is the first reportage I did on Milan.
Its purpouse is to show a virtual ride on one of the most rapresentative mean of public
transportation in Milan. An experience everyone can affort to make (a tiket is just Lit.
1,500 - less than Us$ 1) but many usually overlook.
Milan has the most
efficient and
modern public transportation system in
Italy. Nevertheless, to me the most
beautiful
and romantic is still the tramway.
Tramway transportation began in Milan in
the late '800, back then the cab were
powered by horses. Now thouse beautiful tram are in museums, but you can see some tram of
the late '30s still on duty, as the
famous line '19' which crosses the city
from north-west to south-east.
This reportage is dedicated to it.

Tramways travels on rails, of course, here is an
intersection near Piazza Firenze, one winter sunday morning.

Once inside, librty electric lights hang from the
ceiling of the coach. Many of the
tram parts, such as windows, doors, the footboard, the benches inside, are still made of
wood.
Tr 3. |

Windows with the wooden
frame and a particular closing device. Breaks and doors are operated by air pressure which
recarging pump makes the distinctive noise you hear wile on board.

Once you are in, you can stand, provided you grab on
to one of the given supports as the trip is a little rocky. Or you can sit on a bench chatting with your fellows
travellers.
Or you can look at Milan rollin by before
you like in a cinema.
Spending some time on a tram is a
perfect way to have a city sightseeing tour at a very cheap price.

Well, time to step down, and let our '19' rattle
away at full speed. It is olmost 60,
but it is still the best.
