This cubicle takes its name from the
fresco in the lunette on the central wall which depicts a young woman
with a rich tunic and a veiled head. Her arms are outstretched in
prayer. Scenes showing important moments from the life of the deceased
are depicted on either side of this orant figure. In the crown of
the vault there is the Good
Shepherd in the celestial garden. Episodes from the Hebrew Scriptures
symbolize salvation through intervention. For example, we can see
the Three
Youths in the Fiery Furnace, the Sacrifice
of Isaac and Jonah coming out of the Sea Monster. Thus Christians
obtain salvation through the saving grace of Christ. The pictures,
which are very well preserved, date to the second half of the third
century. |
