Col solito graffiante umorismo trasgressivo mette alla berlina il perbenismo ipocrita dei suoi concittadini. Ripetere un’operazione di questo tipo non è semplice, se pensiamo che Waters utilizza come sempre il suo attore feticcio, il debordante travestito Divine, morto nello stesso anno per apnea respiratoria. Nel film di Shankman è messo a confronto con un "allargato" John Travolta. Comunque, in qualche modo, lo spirito di fondo rimane. La città scelta è sempre Baltimora, gli anni rappresentati sono sempre i Sessanta, e la storia precedente è abbastanza rispettata. |
Nikky è un’adolescente che nonostante la corporatura non risente di alcun problema di peso, anzi, è felice di essere com’è, incoraggiata da una madre altrettanto in soprappeso (incarnata da Travolta). La ragazza decide di partecipare a una gara musicale televisiva. Il guaio è che il programma è piuttosto sul razzista e il bigotto, cui partecipano delle ragazzotte sicuramente più aitanti di lei, una delle quali ha una madre molto bella quanto perfida, impersonata da Michelle Pfeiffer.
