BUILDING TECHNIQUES

All the boats are constructed in GRP strengthened according to CE and RINA specifications and regulations.

The hulls of the Comet 703, Comet 303, Comet 35, Comet 38 and Genesi 43 are solid laminated, and the decks are in sandwich. On these models, the external surfaces of the hull, deck and superstructure are moulded with white or grey gelcoat made with isophthalic neopentilic resins. They are acid and alkali-proof as well as seawater, solvent and fuel-proof. The hull, deck and all connected parts are made of isophthalic resins, reinforced with glassfibre of different weights and weavings. The glass tissues are reed malting type combined with a layer of MAT; the first layer of glass reinforcement next to the gelcoat is of lightweight MAT impregnated with vinylester resin, for osmosis resistance. The fibreglass components are first quality, hand laid with precise control in a constant environment, where humidity and temperature are closely governed. The design weight of reinforcement and ratio of resin are applied under close supervision, to obtain the thickness required for the various parts of the hull. A layer of paraffinated gelcoat is applied on the inside surface of the hull, in areas coming in contact with water, for osmosis resistance on the inside. The bulb keel can be lead or cast iron, treated with a chemical process against corrosion, and epoxy coated.

The structure of the Comet 36, Genesi 43 Performance, Comet 48 deck house, Comet 49 (both versions), Comet 50, Comet 54 Deck House, and Comet 65 (both versions) is built with termanto foam sandwich and balsa-cored sandwich, and special bi-directional glass-tissues hand laid with vinylester resin for the external body and completed with polyester. The internal reinforcements are connected directly to the hull for the best rigid structure. The local reinforcements are in Kevlar.

The lead keel is treated with chemical process against corrosion, and epoxy coated. The structural bulkheads have a triple fastening: they are glued, resined and screwed to the hull and deck. The hull to deck joint is structural, bonded with special materials.

On all the boats in production the engines we use are the most powerful. The rudder is with stainless steel stock, and tapered blade. Performance versions with stainless steel PM114 (three times lighter, three times stronger).

Deck stainless steel is AISI 316.
All the systems are particularly cured: water systems with manifolds, Rama rigid tube and fast clutch; electric systems with a thermo-magnetic switch panel, organised for a fast and easy maintenance.
