The Salento's vine-growing history
sinks the roots in the ancient Messapia    From the Salento chalices, together with aroma and intense taste, evocative images of a great and ancient past come to light.     The Salento vine-growing story arises in very old times ; the Salento area, part of the ancient Messapia, an important crossroads for the trade with Asia Minor, receives from those lands the first boosts to the production of grapes and wines.     The seed of this tradition makes its fruit to reach howadays through the patient cares of the heirs of this noble activity that succeeded during the centuries : from the settlers of Magna Graecia, to the Basilian monks, that under Byzantium's protection dealed in Salento wines in all Asia Minor.     The Salento wine-producing tradition strengthens definitively in the eighteenth century, when it becomes the main economic activity of the Bourbon house.     This interlaces with the story of the Neapolitan family of the Conti Zecca, that from the end of the '500 transfered in the land of Leverano, starting an understanded agricultural activity in their own company, where the cultivation of the whole vine, to the grain, to the vegetables, the forage and the olive is the most important and primary activity.    In the capacity of increasing the value of their own products,they manifest love for traditions.     The typicalness of Conti Zecca's wines derives from the family's four estate : vines of the Saraceno, Cantalupi, Santo Stefano and Donna Marzia that give their names to different products, all of elevated quality.     The amplitude and the depth of the Conti Zecca range include more than 20 references, in a shading kaleidoscope and intensity, and finds maximum esteem in the vintage wines, produced from selected grapes and worked with craftsmanlike care, from the manual harvest, to end with the maturity in valuable oaken barrels and barriques. The quality of the Conti Zecca wines is born in modern structures and from innovative tilling process.
   The rational and modern start of the vine-growing, the high
mechanization, the experimentation technique, the technology employment
advances is in the vinification as well as in the bottling of the wine,
the collaboration with the most important Italian and international oenological
schools, they connote the activity of the Azienda Agricola Conti Zecca.    That, from the vintage, prevalently mechanized, made strictly at night and to the first lights of the dawn in order to preserve the freshness of the fruit and create perfect synchrony between the phases in the rows and that in cellar, till the modern pressing installation, soft pressing and control system of the fermentation temperature.     The harvest of the grapes take place distinctly for grapes variety, according to the maturity curves that from the month of August, accurately stood out.     The strict final controls guarantee maximum safeness to the consumer and best conclude to a quality process, however in the respect for an interesting Quality-Price relation. The increase in value of the Conti Zecca wines is born from the careful selection of the land.    The Salentinians are rich of love, and their land rich of life.     In the course of their story, the Conti Zecca's farm has known how to select every single typology of the land suiting with wisdom to more adapted vines.     The 800 hectare of the Conti Zecca's Salentinian Estates offers the flavour of this strong land in all its shading. |
