Zante is a Greek isle washed by
the Ionian Sea south of Cefalonia isle. Its surface is of 402 Sq.
Km.
and has a coast extension of
123 Km.
The
landscape morphology shows a mountainous area west-wards (protected by the WWF
for migration of turtles), a central flat area and a hilly area eastwards.
Thanks
to the typical Mediterranean climate of this isle, the vegetation is luxuriant
with woods, olive trees and citrus plantations, vineyards and wild oregano.
During
summer, the temperature can reach 40 °C (104 °F) while winters are mild. Rains
are occasional from May to October. The isle is reach in natural drinkable
sources and it is furnished with an aqueduct.
The
main resources are agriculture, fishing and tourism. This last are becomes the
most important resource starting from spring to autumn.
The
main town is Zachintos, with architectonic Venetian origins where the English
and Italian languages are spoken almost the same as the Greek language.
The isle is well connected by frequent ferrying and hydrofoil-boat service.
Furthermore, 3 Km south Zachintos there is an international airport served by the Greek shipping line and also by international flights, more frequent during the summer season.
