Biography:
28-year-old Ricardo Confessori was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, to parents of Italian descent. Though now a very important part of the ANGRA chemistry, Ricardo was the last member to join, replacing original drummer Marco Antunes in September, 1993. This was just after the recording of Angels Cry, the band's debut album, and at the commencement of a very big tour. Joining the band for this tour was a big step for Ricardo, whose previous experience in the bands KORZUS and GARCIA Y GARCIA was valuable but did not extend beyond the local club circuit. To play the Brazilian Monsters of Rock in 1994, less than a year after joining ANGRA, and sharing the stage with Kiss, Slayer, and Black Sabbath was definitely a thrill for the drummer. Although he is quite technically accomplished and his precision is beyond impressive, Ricardo does not share his bandmates passion for classical music. He is proud to say that his true love is hard rock and heavy metal.Ricardo has been influenced by heavy music from the time he first heard a tape of Led Zeppelin's Black Dog and Deep Purple's Highway Star at a friend's house. He says, I went crazy with what I heard and said, I want to play this type of sound! But I had no idea how difficult it was going to be. Confessori had actually started out playing guitar, but when he and a friend formed their first band in 1984, the friend could not play the drums at home because of the noise. So they switched, Ricardo bought a drum kit, and his career as a first-rate drummer began! He is the most surprised of anyone, and says, Who would say that I was going to like this damn thing so much!
Aside from playing the drums in ANGRA, Ricardo teaches private lessons and conducts drumming workshops. He is also very much a part of the writing and recording process in ANGRA, as evidenced by his role in Holy Land he was truly the missing link the group needed to add heaviness and power to their sound. Ricardo has been able to develop his style into new musical directions within the context of this uniquely talented band.
