January 5, 2004: opening of tunnel connecting station Museo (Linea 1) with box office inside Archaeological Museum has been delayed to April (see news - in Italian - from Il Mattino).

January 9, 2004: The ancient harbour of Neapolis (2nd century after Christ) has been re-descovered thanks to works for station Municipio of Linea 1. Among many other things, archaeologists have found a 13-metre long boat, vases coming from Middle East, amphoras filled with oil, wine and perfumes. The Museum of History of the City should be placed in the station Municipio.

January 11, 2004: Comune di Napoli asks Ministry for Infrastructures direct management for construction of Centro Direzionale - Aeroporto section of Linea 1 (see news - in Italian - from Il Mattino).

January 16, 2004: more and more archaeological discoveries are being made during excavations for stations Municipio and Duomo (Linea 1): Naples vice-Mayor Rocco Papa announces that protected paths are being considered to allow public visits to working areas (see news 1 and news 2 - in Italian - Il Mattino).

January 21, 2004: Comune di Napoli approves construction of a pedestrian underpass in Montesanto area between Linea 2 station and that of Linea 5 and Linea 7 (see news - in Italian - from Il Mattino).

January 21, 2004: Comune di Napoli approves the preliminary project for Piscinola - Aeroporto section (Linea 1). Area previously occupied by old Alifana line tracks is expected to become a pedestrian path with gardens and squares (see news - in Italian - from Il Mattino).

February 7, 2004: on March 1st, single ticket fare increases from 77 cents to 1 euro. In return, a wider offer of services and discount for some kinds of monthly and yearly tickets (see news - in Italian - Il Mattino).

April 11, 2004: 257,000 euros funded to investigate feasibility of Linea 9. By end of summer decision will be made whether to build it or to build a cable-car system instead of it (see news - in Italian - from Il Mattino).

April 18, 2004: Linea 6 project slightly modified: station Martiri replaced by new station Chiaia - Monte di Dio, with three exits: via Chiaia, piazza Santa Maria degli Angeli and piazza Santa Caterina. By end April CIPE is expected to confirm 220 million euro funding (see news - in Italian - from Il Mattino).

April 21, 2004: portuguese architect Alvaro Siza officially presents to Comune di Napoli his project for a new design of Piazza Municipio: his proposal also contains design of stations of Linea 1 and Linea 6 (see news - in Italian - from Il Mattino).

May 29, 2004: Madonnelle - Botteghelle section of Linea 3 has been completed. Now the line is completely in service with 11 stations in 12 kilometres. Initial frequency is 30 minutes, and transport capacity is about 4000 passengers in rush hours (see news #1 - in Italian - from Il Mattino, and news #2 - in Italian - from ASCA).

October 7, 2004: new building site for Linea 6 works is going to be opened in Municipio Square: car traffic diversions planned (see news - in Italian - from Il Mattino).

October 21, 2004: CIPE (Interministerial Committee for Economic Programming) has approved funding for completion of Linea 6. First section will enter service in 2009, and line will be completed in 2011 (see news - in Italian - from Il Mattino).

December 21, 2004: a CIPE preliminary meeting has started procedures for 181.3 million euro funding to complete Capodichino - Centro Direzionale section of Linea 1 (see news - in Italian - from Il Mattino).

December 29, 2004: Regione Campania has funded 17 million euros for Linea 1. Among these, 12 will be used to complete Dante - Centro Direzionale section, 2 for restyling of station Vanvitelli (in which works by artist Mario Merz will be exposed), and 3 for the new exits and for restyling of station Scampia-Piscinola (see news - in Italian - from Il Mattino).

December 30, 2004: good chances to open Mostra - Mergellina section of Linea 6 by end 2005 - early 2006.
