elevated from Garibaldi to Gianturco;
Gianturco-San Giovanni:
An extension towards east has been planned (tracks already existing and
used by FS), with three new stations:
Ferraris,
Vigliena and
San Giovanni.
Announced opening date is by end 2006 (see news in Italian - Il Mattino).
Currently there are no news about actual realization of this extension.
Further planned stations for this line are: Agnano, Santa Maria della Neve
and Porta Capuana.
Also in this case no news are currently available about their
actual realization.

April 23, 2002: Rocco Papa (ViceMayor of Naples) presents
the Project "Area Est" (Naples Eastern Area) which
includes the extension of
Linea2
to
San Giovanni (this station will be deeply improved)
and announces a train frequency of six minutes

June 1, 2002: the pedestrian connection tunnel between stations
Museo
(Linea1)
and
Cavour
(Linea2)
opens: two tapis roulants and 90 seconds of walk

January 21, 2004: Comune di Napoli
approves construction of a pedestrian underpass in
Montesanto
area between
Linea 2
station and that of
Linea 5

April 13, 2005: a 108-metres-long pedestrian tunnel will connect station
Amedeo
of
Linea 2
to lower station of Funicolare di Chiaia. Scheduled time one year,
cost 1.200.000 euros

October 29, 2005: Trenitalia exits Metronapoli.
As a consequence, the former will manage
Linea 2,
while the latter will manage
