BEETHOVEN AND WOMEN'S MUSIC 

AT THE TEATRO COMUNALE OF BOLOGNA THE OPUS 18 PROJECT

The Brodsky Quartet is currently presenting the exciting Opus 18 project featuring Ludwig van Beethoven's Opus 18 string quartets linked to six newly commissioned works eachreflecting on what Beethoven composed exactly 200 years ago.

The composers involved are Tunde Jegede (Nigeria), Karen Tanaka http://www.schirmer.com/composers/tanaka/bio.html(Japan), Javier Alvarez (Mexico), Sally Beamish < http://www.music.gla.ac.uk/HTMLFolder/Resources/SMIC/html/Beamish.html> (U.K.) and Dimitri Smirnov & Elena Firsovahttp://mac-texier.ircam.fr/textes/c00000790/index.html (Russia).

After the world premiere performance of the Opus 18 project, London on 8, 9, 10 March 2000 at Cabot Hall, Canary Wharf, further performance will take place on 11,12,13 november 2000 in Bologna.

The total of these twelve string quartets have been released on a 3 CD box set in March 2000 by Vanguard Classics.
