Artificial Life (AL) is a relative new science that tries to understand the process that produces what we are used to call life. Usually the complex behaviour of a living being may be tought as the effect of the cooperation of many simple parts.
Using artificial selection criteria to resolve an optimization problem brings to what is called Evolutionary Programming (EP), the most famous example of which are Genetic Algorithms (GAs).
