The European Sport Management Quarterly

The European Sport Management Quarterly (ESMQ) publishes articles that contribute to our understanding of how sport organizations are structured, managed, and operated. We also publish articles that enhance our understanding of the role of sport management and sport organizations in social life and the way social forces and social practices impact these organizations. We do not restrict the focus of articles to any particular type of sport organization, we are interested in public, voluntary, and commercial sport organizations, those which deal with amateur sport and those which deal with professional sport. Articles that deal with organizations that produce sport related commodities or service organizations in the sport industry are equally acceptable. We will also publish articles that examine the way in which non-sport organizations e.g. the state, regulatory bodies, sponsors, etc impact the structure and processes of sport organizations. While we welcome papers with a European perspective we do not confine our focus to any particular geographic area. We also support comparative studies and articles that adopt an international perspective.

We publish theoretical, empirical and position papers and encourage submissions from any theoretical perspective. We do not endorse any one particular methodological approach over another. Rather articles are judged on the appropriateness of the method used for the problem being studied. We are interested in focused and well argued papers.

We support new and creative ideas and approaches to the generation and dissemination of knowledge about the broad field of sport management. Proposals for Special Issues that focus on a particular topic of relevance to the field may be submitted to the Editor. All articles that are submitted for a Special Issue will be subject to the same review process as regular articles and Guest Editors will be required to work closely with the Editor.

Submission of Manuscripts

Individuals wishing to publish an article in the European Sport Management Quarterly (ESMQ) should submit four (4) hard copies of the article to the Associate Editor; Bill Gerrard; Leeds University Business School, Maurice Keyworth Building; University of Leeds; Leeds; LS2 9JT; England or send an electronic version of their manuscript to esmq@lubs.leeds.ac.uk In preparing manuscripts authors should follow the guidelines in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (4th edition). Copies of this publication may be available in libraries or can be ordered from American Psychological Association, 3 Henrietta Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2E 8LU, England or APA Order Department, P.O. Box 92984, Washington DC, 20090-2984 USA. All articles should be submitted in English and should contain a title page which shows the name of the author(s), their institutional affiliation and to whom any correspondence should be sent (include full mailing address, E-mail address, telephone, and FAX number) The second page should contain the title of the article and an abstract of not more than 150 words. Apart from the first page any clues as to the identity of the author(s) should be eliminated from the text. Manuscripts should be doubled spaced, including references and block quotations and must be typed. They should not exceed 30 pages in length (excluding references). All diagrams, tables, figures, and graphs should be submitted in original form on a separate page and must be clean and crisp in appearance. Footnotes should be limited in number and not exceed six (6) lines. References which appear in the text must be accurate concerning dates of publication, spelling of authors names, periodical titles, etc and they must cross check with those citations which appear in the reference list. Manuscripts that do not adhere to APA guidelines may be summarily rejected without review. Authors should ensure they retain a copy of their manuscript in case of loss in the mail. Copies of manuscripts will not be returned to authors. Manuscripts will be evaluated in a blind review, in most cases by three reviewers (usually at least two of these will be members of the editorial board). Authors will be sent a copy of the reviewer's comments together with a decision on publication. Manuscripts must not be submitted to another journal while under review with European Sport Management Quarterly nor should they have previously been published. Authors of manuscripts accepted for publication must transfer copyright to Meyer and Meyer. If accepted a disc copy of the manuscript must be submitted in WordPerfect or Microsoft Word format.
