Some months ago I received an e-mail from Markus about EDC/ECC correction
by cd writers. I'm sorry, but at that time I didn't have time to test what Markus stated and quickly
I forgot it. I have just found that e-mail on my hard disk, again I have no time to make some tests, so I
report it as is. Markus write that... the burners do NOT correct the data field, they just do NOTHING,
meaning they write your patched data and the ORIGINAL ECC/EDC stuff ... so the PSX CD-ROM controler
"corrects" your patched data.
It is a very plausible theory. Thankyou Markus.

For all you new Windows XP users here is a little add on. Download (right click and choose ´Save As...´) this file and put it in the same folder as ECCRegen. It is not yet tested (I don't have Win XP) but it should enable Windows to use themes with ECCRegen.

Walxer wrote me about a little bug which affects installable versions 1.4 and 1.41: If you run ECCRegen from desktop icon or from quick launch icon you will not be able to use integrated help system in setting window (the ? button inside title bar). You can wait for next verson or manually add working directory to these shortcuts.

Version 1.41 released. There is a bug in mode 1
ECC regeneration algorithm (thankyou, Tuchman

Version 1.4 available for download. Main feature
of this release is support for mode 1 CD-ROM format and for mode 2 form 2 sectors, with
autodetection of image type. When ECCRegen finds a mode 2 form 2 sector it will check EDC only if
it isn't null (00 00 00 00). CloneCD (www.elby.de)
image format is now recognized, but since my burner is not supported by this excellent burning
program I was not able to test this feature. Madium suggested me to add support for multiple
sector selection (he also suggested mode 1 support), so you will find some new commands in sector
list context menu (as usual right-click on sector list). I have also added a new way of scanning
CD-ROM images (very similar to old scanning engine), which test both EDC and ECC before mark a
sector as modified. Last but not least, I have found a fantastic free setup engine
(Inno Setup - www.innosetup.com, with
My Inno Setup Extensions - http://www.wintax.nl/isx),
so in download page you will find also installable version. I suggest you to use it instead of
zip archive since ECCRegen does some registry additions, and Inno Setup uninstaller automatically
remove them.

Version 1.3 just finished. I have rewritten from ground up all the code that rebuild ecc, now it is much more compact, efficient and easy to mantain. I have also added support for one of the most interesting burning softwares: BlindWrite (visit its web site here www.blindwrite.com ). From now on you will be able to open BlindWrite image format (well, actually it is the same as CDRWin one). I have also fixed a little bug that causes some troubles with last sectors when they have to be fixed. Here is the full list of changes in this version:

Happy new year and new millenium (ok, I know, I'm a bit late). I have found a little bug that produces two alarms (one real and one fake) if the last sector of a CD image has broken EDC/ECC. It will be fixed in the next version.

Version 1.2 completed. Download it now from Download page. In this new release I have implemented an improved scan engine, now it is three time faster. Fabio, a friend of mine, maintains that ECCRegen user interface was too similar to the one I drawed for another utility, so I have added a basic support for skins. Are you happy, Fabio? I have also added drag and drop capabilities, you can drop files on ECCRegen window or its icon if it is closed. What's new in this new version:

Released version 1.15. I have only implemented a better fix for the bug found in version 1.13 (I coded version 1.14 in a hurry and now I have found a nicer solution to the problem of false alarms). Now it should be all under control. I hope :).

I would like to thank Davide, a friend of mine, who pointed out a bug with the use of large fonts in Windows (I think he is the only one in the world who uses large fonts). Version 1.13 will be fixed.

There could be some problems with Windows 95. This release has an old version of comctl32.dll wich doesn't support check boxes for items in a list view. You should use at least version 4.70 of this dynamic link library. You should also update the HtmlHelp engine to the last version. You can find links for both these patches in Download section.

Added a new section to the site. In Burners page you will find an incomplete list of burners that doesn't support EDC/ECC regeneration on the fly.

Version 1.12 available. This new version has only one feature added: you can select all bad sectors (or deselect them) with a right mouse click on sector list. This feature was added after an e-mail from Walxer. Walxer (utenti.tripod.it/walxer) is making a patch that converts menus and player's names in Winning Eleven 2000 u-23 Olympic form japanese to english. This kind of patches modify a great number of sectors. If you are really smart with mouse you can check all bad sectors within a few hours :), but now you can accomplish this task with two mouse clicks.

New version is out! You can download version 1.1 final from Download page. Scan engine is now multithreaded, so it will not hang up the programm during bad EDC/ECC searching and you can stop the process in any moment if you need it. I have also added a help system using the new HTMLHelp by Microsoft (well, actually it is a mirror of this site).

A new PSX patching tool has seen the light. With ECCRegen now you can burn generic PAL/NTSC patched Playstation games with every CD writer, even those that don't regenerate EDC/ECC on the fly, like TEAC CD-R55S. ECCRegen 1.0 beta1 is available for download. It is a beta, so there may be some bugs: write me if you find some.
I need more info about subheader field of mode 2 form 1 sector. If someone knows where to find them writes me, please.
