Hello, is there anybody out there? This question comes from my conscience because I know a lot of you has been asking: "Is this site still alive?!?!?!" I've received tons of e-mails and also I'd like to thank all the fair guys on the forum: Nico, Stefano, Auxi, Joshy_Bolonga, Gordy, Anulov, Matt... and of course, Marco for his help. Auxi suggested me to share my roios at the #roios channel: I have no time to do that and as you all have seen, I have no web space to up/l roios...until I find a solution. What we can do is to start a weed: you know, I have a very huge collection ... I can start the weed with some of you who will up/l the roio on #roios or go on with the weed. Let me know :-) And now some Pink Floyd news...

1. DSOTM HITS Number 1 SPOT: The new version of Dark Side has gone straight into Billboard's Top Pop Catalog Album chart at number 1, as a "Hot Shot Debut", despite the fact it also lists the 1352 weeks it has spent on their charts so far! Thankfully, it is keeping Celine Dion at bay, in the number 2 spot.

2. NEW BOOK: A new book, "Pink Floyd's The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn" by John Cavanagh, is being published by Continuum in the US on September 15th, 2003, and available in the rest of the world after November 2003. It is part of their 33 1/3 series of books, which focus on one album, dispenses "with the standard biographical background...and cuts to the heart of the music on [the] album". We shall have more details of this release closer to publication, and will naturally keep you in the picture.

3. "UNCUT" MAGAZINE SPECIALS: The new issue (April '03) of the UK's "Uncut" music magazine, out today, features a brief questions and answers with David and Rick to accompany their DSoTM SACD review.
Also, next month's issue (out on May 1st) is a Floyd special, with a "psychedelic" CD on the front entitled "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun" to listen to whilst reading their 30th Anniversary special...(can anyone in the UK buy a copy for me?!)

4. DARK SIDE INCLUDES "TICKET TO RIDE": Last night we noticed that the new edition of Dark Side Of The Moon, still has The Beatles "Ticket To Ride" appearing at the very end of the album. The subject of speculation for many years, the music, heard as the heartbeats fade out, has either not been noticed by James Guthrie (unlikely) or has deliberately been left in for listeners to find! It is not the original Beatles version of "Ticket...", but a version with a heavy use of strings. To hear it, turn the volume up right at the end of the album, after the music has finished... NEW ITALIAN BOOK OUT: Our Italian friend, Christian Diemoz, has just brought out his new book, "Le canzoni dei Pink Floyd" ("Pink Floyd's songs") through Rome publishers Editori Riuniti. Over to Chris:
"The book is part of the "Pensieri & Parole" ("Thoughts and Words") series. These volumes try to analyze the history of an artist, or of a band, by taking as a starting point what is much more evident in their production: the lyrics of the songs. Therefore, since Pink Floyd became great due also to the use of effects and of spoken words, on some chapters (espcially The Wall and The Final Cut), I tried to transcribe those parts, and to offer their translation. That stuff, to me, is capital to fully understand Pink Floyd's message. The Wall chapter, then, also relates the songs on the album to the movie and to the live act, giving a wide range of info on what is probably the biggest concept ever in popular music. The books has sixteen chapters. Fifteen are dedicated to the studio albums (being a work on lyrics, it's just on studio versions we focus) and one to the 7" with songs that never ended up on LP (referring mostly to the early years). In each chapter you find: a synthetical introduction, with data on the album (producer, place where it was recorded, artwork for the sleeve, etc...), an introduction providing biographical info on the band's history during the making of the album and then, for each song, a critical analysis of the lyrics, plus the original version and the translated Italian one."

We've just received our copy of the book, and an interesting read it looks too. We're dusting off our Italian-English dictionary and a review will be here shortly. Meanwhile, it can be ordered direct from the publishers or your local bookshop using the ISBN of 88-359-5313-8. It costs 18 Euros. (from Brian Damage)

SYD's "SINGING A SONG..." APPEARANCE RELEASED: According to the new issue of Mojo Magazine, Syd's appearance on the Kevin Ayers track "Singing A Song In The Morning" is finally coming out on a new reissue of Kevin Ayers' "Joy Of A Toy" on CD. Archivist Mark Powell, who is masterminding the EMI project said: "I've listened to 84 versions of that song, including one that clearly mentions Syd at the start of the take. Yes, there's weird guitar all over it, very wayward, but as a whole it's very together". The track has been a frequent one on many unofficial collections but to date, none of them have genuinely been the version including Syd's guitar.

LEIBER & STOLLER TRIBUTE DVD and VHS: Contrary to what David Gilmour thinks, the Leiber & Stoller Tribute concert HAS now been released on DVD and VHS. It is being sold by DVD Disc Ltd., who are selling the title on their site (click here) which retails for £17.99 (DVD) and £11.99 (VHS).

The running time is 120 minutes, and features a number of top stars putting their own interpretation on 29 of L&S's classic songs, including DG performing "Stop", Sam Brown, Paul Carrack, Chris Rea, Tom Jones "and many, many more". Both titles are in widescreen format; the DVD is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound, and the concert itself was recorded in June 2001 at London's Hammersmith Apollo.

DSOTM ON SACD, NOT DVD-A!: Information is now coming out that the 30th anniversary edition of Dark Side Of The Moon, is not now appearing on DVD-Audio, but on Sony's SACD (Super Audio CD) format. Apparently, Sony, in an attempt to push the format, covered EMI's costs in remastering the new edition of DSOTM. (from Brian Damage). Added new link.

20.10.2002

Ok, the time for the new gem has come: here you find a rare recording (on April 15th, 1967) of the song "WHAT A SHAME MARY JANE" which, according to the legend, should have been recorded by The Beatles and Syd Barrett during a common session at the Abbey Road Studios. No one has ever confirmed if it is Barrett singing, but on a book I have about Pink Floyd early years, they say it's true....so, listen to it and let me know your opinions (go at the end of this page in the vote center). This is only the first gem from my collection of rare relics: every now and then I will up/l one in order to create a "eduss' Trip on Mars collection"...as usual, stay tuned :-P
