Monika
Sosnowska
(Ryki, 1972)
Sosnowska
works with spaces and architecture; surfaces are her specific medium.
Through the transformation of physical space into mental space,
Sosnowska intervenes in the conditions that surround us by modifying
them and playfully stimulating the perceptions of the spectator.
By
multiplying the possibilities of obtaining dimensions that are usually
predefined, Sosnowska remodels our sense of orientation. She avoids
the logical movements inside a room, succeeding in creating confusion
in our physical and visual expectations.
Consequently,
her installations are transformed into spatial surroundings that can
be experienced in very different ways: according to the observer,
through time, determined by the circumstances and the place where the
installation is located.
Sosnowska
is interested in contrasts. She uses objects that are part of daily
life, but they become different from common objects once we perceive
the existence of a diversity between true reality and a distorted one.
This makes the observer uncertain which reality he or she is living at
that moment. The result is an often ironic comment on specificity and
its borderlines, through the re-articulation of its most obvious
limits, without dwelling upon any particular or defined message.
