Laura Pecci is proud to present Carla Accardi’s most recent work in a
solo show by the artist.
Carla
Accardi belongs to the Forma Uno group, a proponent of abstract painting.
Since her connection with Forma Uno, her work has evolved in a most
personal way, bringing to fruition her capacity of constant
transformation and remaining truly contemporary all throughout.
Accardi’s
work cannot be allocated to any specific current in art, partly because
it anticipates traits of design in showing great sensitivity to shape.
Accardi’s
creative path is characterized by a continuous delving into the kind of
tension where her markings never stabilize, in a process that makes them
first feature an abundance of iconography, then contain an increasing
amount of anonymity, and finally makes them disappear. Most recently,
Accardi has gone back to investigating the markings of painting,
expressed in shapes that are similar to ideograms.
The artist’s work runs along the borderline between the abstract and
the concrete, taking into consideration the dialogue between opposites.
There is the counterpointing of black and white, the contrasted use of
color, the relationship between inside and outside, between the
two-dimensional and the three-dimensional, between the painting and its
surroundings.
Indeed,
Accardi’s use of markings is not limited to the surface of the
painting, but goes beyond. She paints or cuts out plastic figures that
enter the surroundings, and in her most recent work, the paint seems to
not settle on the background but levitate.
Accardi’s
production of artwork contains groups of pieces that are united in
sentiment but different in their experimental dimension. Time after
time, the light, the markings, the background, the materials are thought
out anew.
This
last period contains the synthesis of past experiences and offers
apertures that are departure points towards new discoveries.
Carla
Accardi is based in Rome.
