Cagnano is to closest and most important amongst the towns of Lake Varano
(the biggest lake in Southern Italy). It dates back to 1000 a.C. Nearby the
lake, where the little church of SS. Crucifix of Varano is (beautiful when
it comes up from the water whilst low-tide), it would have been the ancient
ITALICA town of Uria. They heard about Cagnano only after 1500, though.
During II World War, there was an important german base for seaplanes. The
hystoric centre is surrounded by the BARONALE building and by the
PARROCCHIALE church. Nearby the village there is the Cave of S. Michele,
which is actually a sanctuary.
