MRS EMILY GODFREY; Mrs. Emily Ruth Godfrey, 87, widow of the late J.
Allen Godfrey, prominent Benton Harbor business man, died this morning
at 3:50 a.m. in the Merrill Rest Home, Coloma, MI. Four months ago Mrs.
Godfrey
fell and received a fractured hip. She was a patient at Meroy Hospital
for
nine weeks. Since that time she had been at the rest home.
She was born Dec 20, 1872 in Lowell, Mi., and had been a resident of
this community since 1920.
Mrs. Godfrey married April 25, 1895 in Lowell. Her husband, who
operated the J. Allen Godfrey Shade Co., here, preceded her in death
Feb. 26th, 1953.
Surviving her are two daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Paulsen of Benton Harbor
and Mrs. Joseph Davini of Salt Lake City, Utah; three grand
children and one great grandchild. Three brothers, Clinton Weeks of
Ionia, Leon Weeks of Lowell, and Ara Weeks of Saranac, and two sisters,
Mrs. Frank Betchelor of Lake Odessa and Mrs. Edith Hapeman of Lowell,
also survive.
Mrs. Godfrey was a member of the Methodist Peace Temple, the WSCS of
the Church and the Crickets On the Hearth. She was formerly a member of
the Eastern Star.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Florin funeral
ome with Rev. Stanley Buck, DD, Pastor of the Methodist Peace Temple,
officiating. Graveside committal service will be held at 1 p.m. in
Oakwood Cemetery, Lowell

HELPER/CARBON COUNTY- Lavisa Jane Kibler Kelley, age 97, passed away
February 7, 2002 at Castleview Hospital in Price. She was born June 30, 1904 in Rose Hill, Jasper County, Illinois to Charles and Isabel Davis Kibler. Married John H. Kelley, December 22, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois. He died May 27, 1963. Lavisa was a devoted member of the Price United Methodist Church and during past years accompanied the church choir with the organ and piano. She and her husband John H. Kelley moved to Utah from Chicago, Illinois during the 1930's and worked and resided in various mine camps: Ophir, Colorado, Ophir, Utah, Watis, Utah and Clear Creek, Utah. They moved to Helper, Utah after World War II and resided at 83 Palmer Street. John opened his own business (Kelley's Lock & Tool) on Main Street and Lavisa continued to teach school. She began her teaching career in a one room school house in Illinois. She taught at Scofield Elementary, Raines Elementary, Helper Central Elementary and Sally Mauro Elementary. At Raines Elementary she taught four grades and was the principal. She was especially pleased with her operettas. Lavisa will also be remembered for all of the tutoring and music lessons she gave over many years. In later life, her students were always part of her memories. After retirement from teaching, she devoted her time to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her family and those whose life she touched. Graduate of the University of Utah in August of 1958 with honors, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and Sorosis Club. She was also a member of local women's organizations and bridge clubs. Survived by a sister, Evelyn Helton, Illinois; two sons, Don (Judy) Kelley, Price, Robert Kelley, Alabama; daughter, Marjean (Norm) Hansen, Spring Glen; special nephew, John Asher Replogle, Arizona; 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter Alyssa, who was born on February 5, 2002. She has many nephews and nieces in Illinois who meant the world to her. Her grandchildren were her devotion and will remain her legacy; Donnie (Karla) Kelley, Fredricksburg, VA; Mike (Paula) Kelley, Moab; Annette (Scott) Henrie, Carbonville; John (Michele) Kelley, Price; Arlene (Ralph) Winn, Springville; Davin Kelley, Price; Bobby John Davini, AL and Lynn Davini, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband John and her sister, Cleda Replogle of Illinois. She will be remembered for her homemade bread, chicken noodle soup, cherry trees, Lawrence Welk, Reeses Peanut Butter Cups, soap operas, her love of sports, and her undying love for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her newly born great-great-granddaughter. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and at the church Thursday one hour prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
