Sant'Ignazio
was born in Laconi, in Sardinia, on 17th December 1701
from Mattia
Peis and Anna Maria Sanna, devot and honest parents, who
in the baptism imposed him the name of Francesco. Since
the first years he distinguished himself for his
simplicity, innocent and devotion, so he was called from
each others Santarello. He dressed the clothes of the
Capuchins as lay brother on
10th November 1721, and spent 60 years of religious life
in the exercise of the repentance, humilty and charity.
He knew the occult things, he penetrated the
secret of the hearts and he had the gift of miraclesi.
For the city of Cagliari,
where he begged for 40 years, he was a prodigy of
beneficience and love, because
he cured a lot of sick people, giving back the eye sight,
the hearing and the language, and resuscitated the dead.
He died in Cagliari on 11th May 1781. In life he never
denied any favour, and still now he does continuous
graces to everyone who asks him with devotion and
confidence. Pio XI introduced the cause on 4th
May 1854, and announced the virtue in heroic grade on
26th May 1869.
He was beatified by Pio XII on 16th June 1940 and
canonized on 21st October
1951.
