Tropospheric Duct
Sometimes, mainly in summer, in the lower atmospheric layers, thermal
inversion produces a kind of ducts or waveguides, usable by higher
frequencies, from upper zone of HF, up to
microwaves. In these conditions,
QSO of some hundred or thousand km becomes
possibile, although usually for only a short time (a few hours).
