Sebbene molti verbi in inglese formano il Simple Past con -ed, altri no. Questi sono chiamati verbi irregolari e includono alcuni dei verbi pił comuni in inglese. 

I tre verbi irregolari pił importanti sono be (essere), have (avere) e do (fare)

Altri verbi irregolari si dividono in 3 principali categorie:
