Boeing KC97L flight simulation
Boeing KC97L
-----------------------------------------
Fully animated with new texture and additional detail from
previous versions thanks to these two great programs: Abacus' Aircraft Factory 99
and Aircraft Animator by Konstantin Kukushkin.
This aircraft was produced by Dave McQueen, September, 1999.
e-mail: smcqueen@home.com
New in this simulation: Ailerons, elevator, rudders, flaps, and landing gear are fully animated. A top fuselage radome and jet engines have been added. The fuselage has been smoothed by adding more parts to the components. The refueling boom will move up and down when the "spoiler key": / is pressed.
I hope you enjoy flying the airplane as much as I have enjoyed putting it together.
Due to time constraints I CAN NOT advise on how to install
this add-on aircraft or explain why you are having problems
with it. For that I suggest you contact one of the many
flight simulation forums available on the Internet.
This simulation is FREEWARE. Don't pay money for it
For use with Microsoft's Flight Simulator 98 program.
You must have installed the MS Converter (fsconv98.exe) in order
to use this airplane. You can download the converter if you need it from:
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/deskapps/games/public/flightsim/fsconv98.exe
Download it into a temp directory, run the EXE file, and follow the online
instructions. It needs only to be installed one time.
KC97L Installation: Unzip the file you downloaded to your AIRCRAFT
folder under Flight Simulator 98. I suggest you download the Boeing Stratocruiser panel by Stephan Grille, st377pnl.zip, from
Flightsim.com's website to substitute for the default Cessna panel. Also download some "big prop" sounds to replace the Cessna sound.
You can find also find these add-ons at: Tom Gibson's Classic Airliner site at:
For detailed instructions as to how to go about installing a new panel

History
The KC-97 Stratofreighter/Stratotanker was derived from the B-29 and B-50 bombers. The original C-97 had a shorter B-29 fin that was later replaced with the taller B-50 fin. It was so high that the fin was hinged so that it could be folded down in order to get the airplane into the hangars of the day. 888 C-97/KC-97s were built.
"The Model 367 was a cargo/transport design. to obtain the needed cargo capacity a double lobe fueslage of two intersecting sections was developed. Two circular sections were preferable to a single elipse of equivalent area to withstand stresses imposed by cabin pressurization. The cargo floor was built along the line of intersection. The lower lobe had the same diameter as the B-29 fuselage while the upper had a greater diameter and room for 134 fully-equipped troops, 3 loaded 1 and 1/2 ton trucks, or 2 light tanks in its 74 foot length. Clamshell doors were fitted into the belly ahead of the tail and built in ramps could be lowered to allow vehicles to be driven aboard. Bulk cargo was loaded by means of a hoist that ran on an overhead rail for the full length of the cabin. Two lower cargo holds ahead of and behind
the wing could be loaded through outside doors." from Boeing Aircraft

Nearly 20 variants were produced including the KC-97 series that were the Air Force's main air refuelers before the KC-135 replaced them. The KC97L was a variant used by State Air National Guard units across the USA. Two J47 jet engines placed on the outboard wings increased the speed of the aircraft to more easily keep up with jet aircraft. These jet engines replaced wing fuel tanks.
Power plant: Four Pratt and Whitney R-4360 Double Wasp
radial engines of 3500 h.p. 2 J47 jet engines.
Cruising speed: 340 m.p.h (295 knots TAS)
Range: 4200 miles (max payload)
Dimensions: Span, 141 ft 3 in; Length, 110 ft 4 in; Height,38 ft 3 in
