When you reach this small town you can see: the houses in the high part of the town, the so called "costa". These houses bear witness to the ancient original of the town and surround the "castello", on this hill you can see the ruins of the "longobardo" castle, and over there the elegant "cistercense" building of the mother church, whit its romantic belfry , the hill of the castle, rises over the town like a grey and gigantic wall, and keeps the rests of an ancient civilization. At the feet of the hill, on the valley the sangro river runs.

Pescasseroli takes its origins from the host ancient age. According to legend it was found by the populations (peligne). Its lands were owner by the counts from celano, sangro and to those of d'Acquino and Vasto, it was also in feud between Vittoria Colonna and Mario d'Aragona.

In the geography of the edrisi (the book by re Ruggero) it is described like "a village that looks like a town ". Francesco Saverio Sipari, in a volume of poetry, pressed in Naples in 1846, used to write important words that in a vivid way describe the village the castle and its environments.
